Hello, simple answer is with controlled release (cr) preparation, paroxetine shall remain in blood stream for longer time & will have less chance of adverse side effects like dry mouth, sleepiness etc. So, depending upon a patients profile psychiatrist shall choose whether paroxetine plain or paroxetine-cr is of better use.

Paroxetine by itself is an ssri, kindly consult an experienced psychiatrist and it is wise not to meddle with the medications, as there is risk of serotonin syndrome and others. All the best.

Hi lybrate-user. Since when have you been on paroxetine? If you've started recently, it could be a side effect. If you're feeling dizzy even after having a glass of water and sitting for a minute of two, go to the emergency room as it can be something other than a mental health incident. However, if you do think it is related to your panic attack, then you can consider psychotherapy or counseling. It's shown to be effective alongside ssris (such as the medication you're on.)

All psychotropic drugs have side-effects: mild with some and severe with others. There are medicines to treat the side-effects too. But now the choice is whether the main problem is more serious than the side-effects. In that case, you will need to take the medication anyway. You can minimize the effects by being on therapy too and doing regular exercise, sleep well, deal with your feelings, eating a healthy diet, and living a stress-free life.

No sir you cannot experiment on medicines like this. You need to meet with a psychiatrist and according to his diagnosis s/he will prescribe suitable medicines and dosages to begin with. There is no doubt that this disease is debilitating but you must persevere not only with the medication but also with counseling. The counseling gives you an avenue to work with your emotional issues and you will develop skills in coping with the everyday challenges that life throws at you. I hope your visits to the psychiatrist were regular and the medication has been frequently reviewed during these eight years. You need to be occupied, and fit into a routine of interesting activities every day. Yoga and meditation is also necessary to train your brain to be disciplined. Exercise always plays a stabilizing role and is the most holistic medicine besides. Since the mind may be regularly perturbed by unreal fears, a reality check through counseling will help you discern fact from fiction. Your socializing and maintaining steady relations is the hallmark of a good recovery program. If I am to assume that there were no relapses during this period, then that is a good sign too. This means that your condition has remained stable all of these years! now go to the next level along with therapy and you can look forward to a more functional and productive lifestyle. But never stop the medication or regulate your dosages without consulting your doctor.
