The idea of pulse polio is to give mass vaccination of inactivated polio virus as to get total immunity of the population called as" herd immunity" in mass immunisation programmes, in addition to protecting your baby you will help in achieving containment if wild polio virus by replacing it with inactivated virus from the polio drops. Polio is a potentially fatal infectious disease that causes paralysis. Unfortunately, there is no cure for the illness. However, there are effective and safe vaccines to prevent it. Polio vaccines are given multiple times to protect a person for life. Every year, World Polio Day is celebrated o October 24 with the objective of making the world free from this crippling disease. The strategy is to eradicate polio by preventing infection by immunizing every child until transmission stops.

Ipv (injectable polio vaccine) dose is to be given at 8 weeks and 14 weeks (goigovt of india, 6 weeks, 8 weeks and 12 weeks (indian academy of pediatrics) booster at 18- 24 months. At present in india there is shortage of ipv across the country so 8-12 weeks schedule has been suggested by goi. You can give second dose later but as you have not mentioned age of baby it's difficult to tell how long you can delay it. Generally delay upto 8 weeks is ok.
