Dear lybrate-user, pneumoccocal vaccine is for pneumonia prevention.
It is not given in national schedule and it is costly. Government does not provide it. However indian acadamy does recommend it there are two brands - synflorix and prevenar. Prevenar is costly.
Both does not have much differences.

If you have not given pneumococcal vaccine to your child of 10 mths, it can be given at this age also. It will be given as 2 primary does and 1 booster at 18 months.
Consult you doctor for vaccination.

Which vaccination is better infarnix hexa or pentavalent as government hospitals have pentavalent injections and whether pneumococcal vaccine is necessary for a child? The doctors in government hospitals are saying pneumococcal vaccine is not required as it is costly. Please suggest.

Is it necessary to go for a booster? And is it a mandatory vaccine. Since this vaccine cost Rs 3300 for one time .Plz also advise mandatory vaccines for which I must go for my daughter. My paediatrician has given me long list of vaccines age wise for my daughter whose expenses is too much. please advise me which vaccines should I go for my daughter and how many boosters needed for it.

Yes this vaccination is mandatory nowadays and that too pneumococcal conjugate vaccine is preferable. Yes you can give at 16mnths of age.

PPSV23 one dose can be repeated one more time after 5 years time gap between any two vaccines should be atleast 4-8 weeks.

Administer pneumococcal conjugate vaccine intramuscularly. The preferred site for infants and young children is the vastus lateralis muscle in the anterolateral thigh. The preferred injection site in older children and adults is the deltoid muscle. Let's have a detailed discussion to ensure proper treatment.

It is better to take typhoid vaccine at any age after six months of age. For children bellow two years of age (tcv) polysaccharide conjugate vaccine should be used. After two years routine vi surface polysaccharide vaccine can be given every three years. Need for booster dose of tcv conjugate vaccine is not yet studied.
