Metformin is a safe drug to be used in diabetes because chances of hypoglycemia are very less with it.
Pioz (Pioglitazone) is another drug used to control blood sugar with different mechanism.
Usually second drug is added when blood sugar is not controlled with diet restrictions, regular exercise and single medicine.

Hello, Thanks for the query.
If your blood glucose levels are FBG 165 mg & PP 230 mg, then taking oral antidiabetic medicine 3 times a day is rather too much.
Please check your HbA1c% also and come back. The present drug combination recommended Metformin + Glibenclamide 2.5 mg once may be ok. But it is better if more recent drugs like glimepiride, tenelgliptin etc are used rather than Glibenclamide. Please remember diabetes once diagnosed will remain with you for lifetime. Dosage. Metformin plain should be taken thrice daily with food however it varies according to the patient need but SR is prescribed once for a day since it has long duration of action. Kindly consult a Diabetologist in person since your body needs varies.
