Hi, my 16 year old son have been bullied by peers he was hiding not told us, suddenly he started getting panic attacks. We were not knowing what's happening with him .we start consulting a clinical psychologist and psychiatrist, I was struggling from past 3 months no any medicine was helpful. He has been diagnosed depression and panic disorder .now our doctors suggested pexep plus 25.0+05 zapiz twice a day. But theses doses seems heavy for him. At starting they were giving pexep 12.5 morning and 25.0 in evening. His attacks frequency controlled. But again his mood and other body changes like some time fear, vomiting, feeling daily urge to masturbating if he doesn't then getting discharged in night or in urine. His urine and poo colours changing to blue. He stopped medicine on his own for two days and I found him back to normal ,i am confused are these medicines really not good? My question is are these medicines are harmful can I stop giving these? As this is his growing age I don't want to put him in another difficulty. He feels very weak low not feeling like to eat as he was eating before.

The medicine pexep has paroxetine which is considered proper and effective treatment for panic attacks. Some may not tolerate the same and the dose or type of medications need to be changed. Consult your psychiatrist again and explain the issues faced and revise the medications. Continue working with the clinical psychologist for cbt. Many a. Times results are seen after 6-24 months. Good luck.

Dear Lybrate user
Anxiety and panic attacks are psychological problems so also take psychotherapy and medicines in these cases do not show results in 1 week it takes times. Peoole take medicines for a long for this problem. If you will take psychotherapy with medicines you will get benefits in less amount of time. Consult your psychiatrist for the same.

Both pexep ie paroxetine and serta ie sertraline are both ssri and are usually not combined together. So consult your psychiatrist and get an ideal combination for your fear and anxiety related to covid. This has become very common these days and you will recover soon. Good luck.

All psychotropic drugs have side-effects: mild with some and severe with others. There are medicines to treat the side-effects too. But now the choice is whether the main problem is more serious than the side-effects. In that case, you will need to take the medication anyway. You can minimize the effects by being on therapy too and doing regular exercise, sleep well, deal with your feelings, eating a healthy diet, and living a stress-free life.

Pari is a good ssri medication, so if it works for you then you should continue to use it. But most research indicates that if you try some form of psychotherapy alongside it, such as cbt or ipt, then your anxiety problems should have greater degree of improvement. Contact a trained psychologist for these.

Paroxetine belongs to a group of medicines called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors the receptors fr the chemical (serotonin) are present both in your brain and stomach, hence mny a times these medicines can cause git symptoms. 25 mg is a good normal dose needed fr an adult, if symptoms ate manageable kindly continue the medice else reveiw back with your treating psychiatrist.
