As of today, treatment for some forms of schizophrenia is life long. Since 2007, she is suffering from schizophrenia. So in all respects, she may have to take the medicines for life.

Some intelligent doctor like me said the same for cancer and AIDS. But research has caught up and now we have treatment for both cancers and AIDS.
So in all likelihood, there will be a permanent cure for schizophrenia.

Paroxetine by itself is an ssri, kindly consult an experienced psychiatrist and it is wise not to meddle with the medications, as there is risk of serotonin syndrome and others. All the best.

Hi lybrate-user. Since when have you been on paroxetine? If you've started recently, it could be a side effect. If you're feeling dizzy even after having a glass of water and sitting for a minute of two, go to the emergency room as it can be something other than a mental health incident. However, if you do think it is related to your panic attack, then you can consider psychotherapy or counseling. It's shown to be effective alongside ssris (such as the medication you're on.)

All psychotropic drugs have side-effects: mild with some and severe with others. There are medicines to treat the side-effects too. But now the choice is whether the main problem is more serious than the side-effects. In that case, you will need to take the medication anyway. You can minimize the effects by being on therapy too and doing regular exercise, sleep well, deal with your feelings, eating a healthy diet, and living a stress-free life.

No sir you cannot experiment on medicines like this. You need to meet with a psychiatrist and according to his diagnosis s/he will prescribe suitable medicines and dosages to begin with. There is no doubt that this disease is debilitating but you must persevere not only with the medication but also with counseling. The counseling gives you an avenue to work with your emotional issues and you will develop skills in coping with the everyday challenges that life throws at you. I hope your visits to...more
