Thanks for the Query.

Your blood sugar needs to be controlled well as you have complications already.

For this either you increase the dose of Insulin gradually by 2 units each time or else you can try adding a Gliptin. Also Do let me know your Serum Creatinine.

For any further information or advice and prescription you can book an online consultation with me on Lybrate. Thank you.

Dear patient, galvusmet is only combo of vildagliptin and metformin. It is very great medication because it works indirectly on insulin producing cells by function called incretin effect. And also has effect on glucogon. But, we can tell it is all in one of your a1c is controlling with galvusmet. Obviously you need to take other medications also and some medications further addresses the comorbid conditions.

As you know, your diabetes is not under control and its not good for your health. Yes, its better to take insulin to control diabetes when your sugar levels are high with 2 or more oral medicines. And yes, insulin can be discontinued after diabetes is under control, but that should be supervised and decision taken by your treating doctor.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
The glucose levels mentioned are definitely high. It appears that present (new) treatment is not suiting you. Since no details are mentioned in terms of drugs and dosage, it is difficult to comment. If the previous treatment was giving good results with better glucose control, what was the reason for changing? You should tell the doctor that you were better of with earlier treatment and hence, he should revert you to that. Find out what he says. Or els...more

I am a diabetic patient of 68 years old. I take medicine gemer ds4 (1/2) tab before breakfast, oxra 10 (1/2) tab after breakfast and teniva m forte (1/2) tab after dinner. Now 2 days back I checked my blood sugar and the result is fbs-106 as and pp-158. I reside at berhampore, wb and my doctor resides in kolkata. I consulted my doctor that my weight is being decreased and it came down from 58 kgs to 50 kgs. Hearing my report he asked me to stop oxra and to continue gemer ds4 (1/2) tab before breakfast and teniva m forte (1/2) tab after dinner. I consulted with the doctor over phone as he is unable to attend at berhampore due to lock down situation. He usually comes to berhampore once in a month. But due to lock down he is unable to come to berhampore. Now my problem is that my weight became 50 kgs from 58 kgs and I am feeling weak very much. In this situation can I take ensure (powder) for diabetic of abbott company for increasing my weight to some extent and to get relief from weakness. I wanted to ask my doctor about the matter over phone repeatedly but his phone is switch off. Under the above please suggest me can I take ensure powder for diabetic for recovering from weakness and to gain some weight. I shall remain ever grateful to you for this act of kindness.

Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query.
As I see you are on multiple drugs to control blood glucose, still the control is not good, means either the dosage is inadequate or food itake is not properly adjusted.
Victosa (liraglutide) is a good option as it will also help in reducing weight.
You may also look at taking SGLT -2 Inhibitors as the option as these compounds reduce blood glucose and also help in weight reduction. Plus are oral compounds. Thanks.
