Dear Lybrate-User,
Opipramol is usually prescribed for some psychiatric illness most commonly anxiety/depression. Most psychiatric medication takes usually 15 days to a month to start its effect and relief from complaints are usually obtained after 1.5 to 3 months. Consult your doctor to help you explain approximate time taken to have relief from the condition.

Dear Ravi,
If this medicine has not worked for you for about a week.... you need to see another doctor for the correct treatment protocol. These treatments need not be medicine based always.

It is safe for long term use, provided you don't self medicate and get yourself monitored, regularly by a psychiatrist. Once in three months is usually enough if all goes well. Regular blood tests and observation by psychiatrist is needed. Else you might land in some irreversible problems. Good luck.

Don't stop this medication on your own. It needs to be continued for some time.
I suggest seeing your psychiatrist before stopping it.

If you do not feel well with one there are alternatives. Discuss your problems as well as worries with Psychiatrist, incorporate physica...more

Dear Ravi,
It is true that most antidepressants take time to cross the blood brain barrier. But Opipramol reaches brain faster. May be -7 days time. The benefits will come only if it is adequate dose - not just fifty mg. Please consult the doctor again after 1 week. He may increase the dose or add another drug or psychotherapy or relaxation therapy.
