I lost my sister 22 days back. She was 21 years old. She suffered from triple A syndrome. Her haemoglobin had gone down to 3.8.Blood loss happened due to heavy periods for 15 days. She was taking homeopathy medicines to increase her blood level. Allopathy medicines for iron (like orofer) did not suit her. It caused her severe stomach pain. Her endocrinologist did not suggest blood transfusion for her. She had gas and vomiting problem on her last evening. She complained of chest and back pain. She was given rantac and zofer for it. But still she kept vomiting. This started in the afternoon and she passed away early morning at 4a. M.My mother keeps blaming herself for her death. She says that if she had a blood transfusion or hospitalized her earlier she could have been saved. She says that my sister's death was her mistake. She keeps repeating this about 100 times a day or more. She is devastated. I fear that this might affect her mental health. Please help.

Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Loosing someone dear and near causes grief. Grief leads to disappointment. Grief related disappointment manifests symptoms as in the case of depression. But disappointment symptoms are far shorter in duration than depression. These symptoms will vanish in some days or weeks. Don’t worry. Physical exercise, outdoor games, entertainment, hobbies etc could help you divert your attention. I suggest cognitive therapy. Take care.

Over the past 6 weeks iv also began having frequent dull aches in my head. Initially it was on the left side of the head but iv have also experienced it today on the front side. In terms of tests i have had A colonoscopy Endoscopy MRI scan of brain and head And also been seen by the ENT Consultant all of which were unable to find anything. There have been some occasions where iv gone to a n e as the pressure has kept me from sleeping or has got quite severe. I was keen to reach out to see if you could shed any light as to what it could be? I have tried acupuncture and professional massages but they do not seem to help and i am getting quite worried as what to do next as its effecting my work. Below are a full list of my conditions: Nausea - 6 months Dull headache - 2 months Imbalance - 2/3 months fatigue/drowsiness 2/3 months dizziness 2 months. I am in depression and a lot of exam stress as I am a medical pg aspirant and a doctor, I am using few medications, bupropion 300 mg, lamotrigine 200 mg, venlafaxine 37. 5 mg, aripiprazole 5 mg, pacitane 2 mg, rabeprazole and ondansetron, these r prescribed drugs by a psychiatrist but I myself take. Few medications since 4 years to help with my studies, stimulants (legal ones) to be specific, modafinil 200 mg, selegiline 5 mg, caffeine 220 mg, and the problem now is I never smoked in my life, although I used to drink one year before, only one year I used to drink, was a social occasional drinker and never had cravings and have been alcohol free since a year, but now although I never smoked before, I feel like smoking to relieve my stress despite taking so many drugs, I am still suffering, feel like crying and lack of motivation to study unless I take stimulants, so smoking cravings without even smoking ever before is my problem, I don't know why?, I was maybe a bit influenced by looking at movies and my friends all around me who smoke whenever they r stressed out, which helps with them actually, maybe I thought smoking a bit might relieve stress and make me motivated a bit so I start studying again, can any psychiatrist can help me with this problem? And explain why I am having cravings ?(note: the bupropion I am using is for depression not for smoking cessation), please help me find a solution, I would take a consult as well if somebody who r addiction specialist who can help me with my problem and explain what I am going thru, thank you.

Its probably due to social learning from your intimate environment where you would have seen people taking about/ experiencing stress and smoking simultaneously. Other probable reason is the use of stimulants which usually provokes tolerance with time and as you are taking stimulant at a fixed dose so the brain might have demanding for some stimulant and it knows that nicotine is one of them. I believe you are on a cocktail of medications both self prescribed and self medicated, the latter ones ...more

Take all medicines as advised by your doctor who is monitoring pregnancy, and also follow a physician's advice for further management of b p.
One more thing try to take rest. As much as you can. And avoid stress.

Hi! my grandmother is 79 years old. She suffered right frontal intracerebral hematoma on 02/02/2021 at 11 pm. She was discharged from the hospital on 08/02/2021 in haemodynamically stable condition. She was on the following medications during her stay at the hospital: inj ceftriaxone, inj mannitol, inj levipil, inj pan, inj zofer, inj paracetamol, tab stamlo, tab levipil, tab pan, tab calcium, years duphalac. She has a ryle's tube and foley catheter in-situ. She was discharged with the following medication to follow: tab stamlo, tab levipil 2 times. Tab pan, years duphalac, years orofer, tab calcium and years multivitamin. Her recovery is what is making us worry. She can talk in slurred speech and very very low volume for 4-5 times a day with great trying. She cannot keep her eyes open for more than 3-4 seconds at a time, that too only 9-10 times a day upon great trying. She mostly answers by nodding her head and cannot sit upright for very long. She has some movement in her left leg and very less to negligible movement in left arm. My question is about how much time will the clot take to dissolve in the brain? How much time can it take for her to at least eat with her mouth? Why is she so tired all the time? I think the doctor has only given some basic medication, and not clot busting medication. What should be the next course of action?

Hello lybrate-user,
your mother has had intracerebral hemorrhage and due to leakge of blood fro small artery in the brain. It does not require a clot buster. The prognosis and further management of patient depends upon the location and size of the blood hemorrhage (0-30 ml good prognosis, 30-60 moderate, more than 60 ml poor prognosis. The dissolving of the blood takes time but the injury which it has caused to the neurons is the one which has to improve for her recovery. Her recovery will b...more
