Hello, thanks for the query.
I have read the information written. Please understand no doctor will prescribe a drug which has such serious side effects. Olanzepine is by and large a very safe drug. It is used for psychiatric conditions. So if prescribed needs to be taken. Plus it is very important to keep diabetes in good control. There is no mention about that. I hope her blood glucose levels are in good control. Thanks.

Instead of worrying about changing medication, I recommend that you put him on some counseling along with the medication. This will help him develop cop...more

It appears that you are being treated for bipolar depression. Bipolar is of two types: bipolar 1 and 2. Bipolar 1 is sometimes plagued by psychotic behavior. So the medicines that you think are for schizophrenia are for the psychotic aspects of it. I strongly recommend that you go for counseling too. It is not sufficient to rely on medication alone for your recovery. In counseling, which incidentally will be a long term intervention, you will learn of a lot of ways to cope with life and make adj...more

The exact cause of bipolar disorder isn’t known, but a combination of genetics, environment and altered brain structure and chemistry may play a role.
Manic episodes may include symptoms such as high energy, reduced need for sleep and loss of touch with reality. Depressive episodes may include symptoms such as low energy, low motivation and loss of interest in daily activities. Mood episodes last days to months at a time and may also be associated with suicidal thoughts.

It appears that by nature or due to certain disturnances he may be showing depression and mental agitation. Instead of some tranquilisers, he should be taken to an experienced psychiatrist for consultation urgently. If advised he may need comprehensive management requiring even hospitalisation and treatment under direct supervision.
