It is a very good drug having both antidepressant and antipsychotic properties. You have to work with your psychiatrist by expressing your symptoms during review, what was reduced and what has not to help him get you into remission. Lack of motivation is a part of depression which can also be treated, also ask him for CBT from a clinical psychologist which will hasten recovery.

Hi lybrate-user,
olanzapine is an antipsychotic medication used in illnesses like psychosis or schizophrenia. It is used in dose range of 5 to 30 mg per day. So, 15 mg per day can be considered a moderate dose.

Hello, thanks for the query.
I have read the information written. Please understand no doctor will prescribe a drug which has such serious side effects. Olanzepine is by and large a very safe drug. It is used for psychiatric conditions. So if prescribed needs to be taken. Plus it is very important to keep diabetes in good control. There is no mention about that. I hope her blood glucose levels are in good control. Thanks.

Dear lybrate-user,
The mood swings are attacks of depression and mania. In between, he may be normal. Now he would have had a relapse or he would have got a mood change. Not that medicines don't work. The mood change may not have come to the notice of the psychiatrist. Please take him to the doctor without stopping dicorate 1 g.

Dear lybrate-user,
You should send the details of his symptoms and diagnosis for which he was prescribed olimelt.
Of course olimelt is sedating. You can reduce and even stop olimelt, provided it is not given for any psychotic symptoms.
