Hello and welcome to Lybrate. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Oliza 2.5 mg tablet is a potent antipsychotic drug. The peak effect of olanzapine (which is the main constituent of oliza 2.5 mg tablet) can be observed after 5-8 hours of oral administration. Use of alcohol is not recommended while you are taking oliza 2.5 mg tablet. You can contact me for further advice and treatment options. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.

Sir my friend is a avid weed smoker and he has been smoking for more than 10 years. A year back he had almost pshycosis .trigger was lsd. He was lost and acted mad for almost a year and was not smoking weed. He was prescribed oliza 2.5. He became more and more troubled. Then he started smoking weed again. And stopped talking oliza. He was definitely better and was becoming active. But in this lockdown I think he finished up his weed. So 3 weeks ago he stopped talking. His wife was worried and consulted a doctor who said to give oliza again. So she dissolved the pill in meal and gave him. But yesterday he came to know he was given oliza. He instantly said his wife to leave him. And now he is saying he needs weed not medicine. What should we do? I'm very very troubled looking at him as he is my childhood friend.

At the outset, my sincere thanks for being so concerned about your friend. From the available history, he has high support need, so he must be admitted to some mental hospital. He also needs injectible anti-psychotic at present as he is refusing oral drugs. One more problem with oliza (olanzapine) is that, if you crush the tablet, its efficacy is almost gone. So, oliza can not be the solution, instead there are other anti-psychotics that are colourless, odourless and tasteless liquid like water, so can be given with food.

I am suffering from Schizophrenia for the last 4-5 years. I am taking olimelt 20 mg and sizodon 2 mg for the last 2 years. I am having hallucinations. Should I continue with the same medicines. If not, what medicines should I take?

The medications are fine, but your hallucinations are not controlled. So you need a revision of prescription, consult your psychiatrist. He will be able to help u. If all 4 years the symptoms have not remitted, with adequate dosage, there are medications for resistant hallucinations. All the best.

Hello, my sister is suffering from psychosis and little aggressive and the psychiatrist has prescribed oliza 5 mg for few weeks. Problem is we can't give her the medicine directly as she will surely refuse it. Is it ok to crush the tablet and mix with food? Will this affect the working of the medicine? Also, after how many days/week can I expect to see her manic symptom go away? Thanks.

Hello, my sister is suffering from psychosis and little aggressive and the psychiatrist has prescribed oliza 5 mg for...
Rage is contagious. When you have a temper, it may be difficult to admit there's a problem. You find yourself going from zero to 100. You were calm, and then your partner (or someone else) said something that triggered you. You snap, say something incredibly hurtful, and feel guilty. Before we know it, we go from being the adult in charge to the child having an emotional meltdown. I used to have the same issues. I was always an aggressive child. I was considered a very hot-headed person. I used to get angry at very small things and I used to lose control and use to hurt people in a way or other, sometimes I used to hurt myself too like I used to punch a wall and once I punched it soo hard that I fractured my own hand. Aggression used to eat me up from inside out. Anger is one of the most divisive and destructive forces on the planet and I knew that and I really wanted to change myself. Anger is an emotion and you can’t escape from it but how you handle is what it matters. I finally decided to control my aggression, I tried a lot of courses, read books on aggression management. There are extensive anger management resources for mental health and aggression management techniques are a dime a dozen. But those have generally proven to be quite ineffective for me. I searched on the internet about how can I control my aggression and I read many articles and watched many videos but nothing seemed convincing to me except one article that was posted by teal swan. That article talked about why do I get angry and gave me some tips to make my anger productive or how can I control it. The article made me feel good about myself. Whenever I used to get angry I used to ask myself one question- ‘what about that hurt me so bad?’. I started following her suggestions and I could see a change within myself. I could feel better. I constantly focused on things that would help me lower down my aggression. I do get angry, you cannot escape from emotion but I do know now how to handle my emotion of aggression, how to manage my aggression. After knowing the mantra to handle my anger everything seems beautiful.

Dose of venlafaxine is very less and it needs to be increased. Once you are on higher dose of venlafaxine then olanzapine can be stopped. You require a detailed assessment.

Hi, one of my close friend's mom is suffering from auditory hallucinations for the more than a week. Most of her talks/hearings are somewhat related to past conflict. Monday they met homeopathy/ayurveda and they suggested for ayurveda tablets/syrup (saraswatharistam and manasamithira vadagam). She was taking ayurveda tablets for 2 days. Since its getting worst and her health would not allow her to wait for few more days to see the response for homeopathy/ayurveda tablets, wednesday night they met psychiatric in chennai. Doctor suggested (psychosis) for a tablet 'olimelt 5 mg' at night (8-8: 30 pm) for 20 days. If she is not getting sleep still, then they suggested to take 'zolfresh 5 mg' at around 11: 30 pm. 1st day (wed night): took olimelt 5 mg around 10 pm, slept around 1 am and woke up around 8 am. 2nd day (thurs night): thursday day time slept for 30 mins. Took olimelt around 8: 45 pm, did not get sleep till 10: 10, started blaberring/crying after that. So gave zolfresh 5 mg, then slept from 12 am-8 am. 3rd dy (friday night-yesterday): friday day time didn't sleep, took her outside. Took olimelt around 8 pm, had meditation for 45 mins, slept around 10: 15 pm. Woke up by 12 am, and blaberring for an hour. So gave zolfresh 5 mg by 1 am, then slept from 2 am till 8: 30 am. Would like to request experts opinion on the below. - can she take both psychiatric tablet and ayurveda medicines together? Would it help for faster recovery? - any other suggestion for faster recovery (like food habits, yoga, meditation, oil bath. Etc)? - in google, its mentioned that "zolfresh 5 mg" has a side effect of hallucinations. Understand this tablet is for deep sleep, but have a fear about this side effect bec. Our main problem is itself hallucinations only - we are trying our level best to divert her, but sometimes it works, most of the times don't. What to do for that - based on above day by day things, are we in a positive direction or we need to speed up the treatment by getting second opinion? How long her body/brain will take to respond for these tablets? When can we expect the slight positive change on this health issue? - there are other suggestions like consulting neurologist, siddha (parallel treatment), acupuncture. Do you recommend any of those at this point of time or wait for sometime to see the response for current medicines? - which treatment would be the best one for this kind of health issue? Any prompt response would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You need to have a valid prescription and regular review when taking olimelt (olanzapine). There are also many other good companies if the particular brand is not available, consult your psychiatrist for the same. Periodic weight measurement, blood sugar and lipid levels need to be monitored. Usually this medicine is used for initial control and later changed to others, depending on the condition. Do not keep giving the medicine, thinking it is only for sleep on your own. Hope this info helps.
