I am suffering from religious ocd since 10 yrs. As my problem is vulgar hesitated to share to even parents. Resulted in a great loss of my career. 6 months back I started using allopathy treatment of fluvoxamine & clomipramine tablets. Unwanted repeated thoughts were almost diminished but couldn't concentrate at all on anything. If I tried to read or think immediately some unwanted thoughts used to intrusive me more harder and deeper. If I look at any god's image some sexual scenes or private parts pics appear as if it were present to them. I completely drenched in ocd, as bad unwanted vulgar thoughts appear on god I couldn't concentrate at all as a result there was huge lose on my education & job. I would want to know what to do to cure my ocd. Is there complete cure in allopathy or homeopathy or in ayurveda. Which treatment is better & efficient. Plze help me.

Dear lybrate-user, disclaimer: I can advice only about allopathy.
Ocd needs long term treatment. Sacrilege ocd needs immediate treatment.
You have found improvement with fluoxamine and clomipramine. Please maintain them for at least 2 years. Dose will be altered with doctor's periodic consultations. Along with it, you can take cbt (cognitive behaviour therapy) and erp (exposure and response prevention). This therapy may take 18-20 sessions. It also needs to be maintained with booster ses...more

Hello! I have been suffering from severe major depression and anxiety since 3 years. I changed many doctors and medicines but to no avail. The doctor I am seeing currently diagnosed me with treatment resistant depression and bipolar effective disorder a year ago, even though I do not experience the manic highs or even hypomania. He put me through ect 22 times which only marginally improved my situation, before ect I used to cry and yell all day. I have extreme fatigue, low motivation, anger irritation, fear, loss of appetite, weight gain due to medications, tremors, loss of confidence, crying spells, blurred vision and extreme weakness due to depression. I am terrified of going outside and blurred vision adds to the fear. Doctors have tried almost all medications: venlafaxine, escitalopram, olanzapine, quetiapine, lithium, valproic acid, paroxetine, clomipramine, and anxiety meds like xanax, rivotril, amylene etc. Right now doctor has put me on clonazepam and prothiaden since 3 weeks, but I have seen no improvement. I took lithium and valproic acid for about 8 months and they only added to my fatigue and weight gain so doctor stopped them. I really need help in terms of medication as I am still hoping there might be one which could take me out of this extreme pain. I am terrified that if I do not get the right help or if there is not a cure, I will have to live like this for my entire life, in bed and barely able to think, eat, move or understand anything. I am 36 years of age, female and from pakistan. I have heard that indian doctors are good. Please help me out of this and suggest any medication and save my life. Thanking you!

Dear Sara,
Your doctor at Pakistan is equally good and she/he has been trying good treatments like antidepressants, mood stabilisers and ECT. Please continue with her/him. Telemedicine in India has jurisdiction in the same country only. It is difficult for you to undergo treatment in India because certain basic tablets only can be prescribed through telemedicine. Intractable depression needs lot of experimental tablets as add on.

If it's OCD, it won't help. You need a proper anti-social medications. Which included SSRI or Clomipramine and other adjuvant. You may contact me for the same.

Dear lybrate-user
OCD is very unlikely to respond to ashvagandha.
Though ashvagandha may have some really good other uses, it's unlikely to help for OCD.
You need a psychiatrist to consider fluvoxamine or clomipramine for yourself or something else.

Hi, ocd is frequently difficult to treat. It frequently requires augmentation and use of high doses. Behaviour therapy is a good mode of treatment to be used alongside medicines. Fluvoxamine could be augmented with memantine or low dose risperidone or clomipramine if the body tolerates. Take care. Consult privately for more help.
