Pregnancy is possible only on one day of cycle, day of ovulation when ovum is released from ovary of woman. That is why normally couple have 12 to 24 cycles of unprotected sex around time of ovulation before going to Gynecologist or infertility specialist for further evaluation and advise. But in PCOD ovulation is affected so chances of pregnancy decrease so should go to Gynecologist or infertility specialist earlier.

Dear Doctor, My girlfriend is 25 years old. We have been dating for the past 3 years now and are committed. She explained to me that from the time she first got her periods, they have been rather irregular. She would also develop certain skin conditions during her periods such as acne on her face or increase in oiliness as well as dryness of her lips. Her gynac after performing certain tests said that she releases several eggs at a time, rather than the usual one when she ovulates. Under his prescription she has been taking a course of Aristelle (Ethinyl Estradiol, Dienogest) ever since As I understand, this drug is a hormonal contraceptive. She has continued this course for the past several years now and has been doing well in terms of skin symptoms and regularity of her period. My question to you is, for how long do you think it would be safe to continue this course without causing any disturbance to her body. We are clear that we want to have sex only after marriage. Hence I would like to know if there would be anything to keep in mind when we do decide that we would like to conceive. I look forward to your kind help. With Gratitude

Hi. As of now if she is better she may stop that pill for a few months and observe. If you are not going to be sexually active as of now then no worries. Once you get married she should easily conceive. Supposing there are problems in conceiving that can be tacled at that time. Per say these pills are quite harmless and you need not worry.

Hello, i'm 26 unmarried virgin girl. 2 years back I had laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis chocolate cyst 9 cm. And i'm suffering from endometriosis. After surgery I took digest 2 mg twice a day for 6 months, but while taking this tablet I suffered a lot with stomach pain, spotting, break through bleeding and vomiting. So doctor suggested ethinyl estradiol (0.02 mg)+desogestrel. (0.15 mg) ocp back to back for 63 days once per day. After 63rd day I stopped this tablet, so that my periods came. From 3rd day again I started tablet for 63 days. Like this for 6 months. Then my doctor told me to take this tablet for 42 days back to back. Till may 2021 I took this tablet like this. But on may month I suffered with severe bleeding while taking that ocp tablet. To stop bleeding I took norethisterone 5 mg. My question is shall I take norethisterone 5 mg once a day continuously for 42 days cycle for 2 years? (like ocp). And what are the side effects on this tablet? Is there any serious side effects on this tablet? Note: don't suggest ocp combination pill again, bcoz it is not suitable for me.

Dear lybrate-user,
you are an unmarried young girl. It is not advisable for you to take norethisterone tablets for long periods like 2 years. But there are long acting injectables like lupron depot of various strengths. You could take it under the supervision of a gynecologist to alleviate your severe symptoms. Wish you symptom free future years.

Dear Ishan,

If you are thinking of adopting one of the effective birth control measures, you can try an intrauterine device (IUD).
