Hello  My girlfriend and I engaged in an unprotected sexual intercourse on the 6th day of her 30 day cycle. I did not penetrate the vagina or ejaculate inside her but my penis came in close contact with the vagina. She experienced brown spotting for 5 days after the incident.  To be on the safer side she took an ipill (1.5 mg levonorgestrel) 49 hours after the incident. She experienced brown spotting for 5 days in the next week as well. Also an otc ovulation test came positive 5 days after the unprotected sexual intercourse. Today is the 32nd day of her period (27 days after the sexual intercourse), she has done two urine pregnancy tests which came out to be negative, however she has still not had her periods. We are really worried since the ovulation test came positive 5 days after sex, and that she has still not had her periods. Could she be pregnant?   More details about the presenting complaint: Urine ovulation test positive after 5 days of unprotected sex (test positive on day 11 of cycle) Previous history of the same issue: regular 30 day cycle with 5 days of bleeding Current medications: Took an ipill (1.5 mg levonorgestrel) at 49th hour after sex. Past medications of the same issue: No Lab tests performed: 2 Urine pregnancy test negative on days 28 and 32 of the cycle.

Hi,
Less chances of becoming pregnant as you did not ejacuate inside. Wait for 1 more week, she will resume her periods.

There is no need only for ipill or any other form of contraceptives during periods as chances of conception are remote. Ipill is an emergency hormonal contraceptive which should be used only sparingly and not more than once in 3-4 months.

Hello, Post ipill intake, the menses occur in next 5-7 days, but if still no menses then please rule out pregnancy with a urine pregnancy test.

Side effect of ipill-- Nausea, breast tenderness, delayed menstruation, lower abdominal ache, headache, vomiting and irregular menstruation are some of the temporary side-effects of the I -pill. However, these effects subside within a day or two.

If it is emergency to avoid pregnancy after unprotected sex you have to use. But not advisable to repeat often instead use some family planning method.
