Yes you guessed it right. It is a beta blocker which is usually used as an anti-hypertensive. But, it is a drug which decreases the sympathetic hyperdrive which is a common phenomenon in any anxiety disorder. In your case, it helps in decreasing sweating, shaking of hands, dry mouth and rapid breathing if at all you are facing such problems.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
Beta blockers are used quite often to control hypertension and related cardiac problems in patients with diabetes also. They are fairly safe. Some times hypoglycemic episodes may not be easily recognised. Thanks.

Dear user you can reduce your medicines and then stop slowly but first of all I need a complete case history of yours and want to guide you about your thoughts and worries so that without medicines you can enjoy your life in a better way, but without knowing everything I won’t be able to help you. If you want to get rid of over thinking and negative thoughts medicines are not enough counseling will help you in a better way. Ciplar la is non selective beta blocker having effect on heart, lungs, blood vessels etc. And so should not be used in asthmatic patients while metoprolol succinate is a cardioselective beta blocker that can be used in patients having asthma or peripheral vascular disease. Both can be used in chest pain or angina or irregular or increased heart beats but if used together they may cause side effects (esp if in excess dose) like nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps or heart block. Metoprolol is used...more

Propranolol may be useful for a short time .What you have to do is to treat the root cause and not the symptoms. Anxiety is a lifestyle disease and does require lifestyle and diet changes and not a chemical cocktail of medicines. Modern medicine is disease focused and not whole patient focused .Have you ruled out thyroid disease what is your exact nature of your job and what is the stress level in the job and at home do you smoke what about alcohol
what about carbonated drinks how much coffe...more

Dear lybrate user. Please don’t panic. You must understand ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION. There is nothing called erectile dysfunction while having masturbation. Loosing erection in the initial stages of sex or not having erection at all or having late erection or lack of sexual desire are called erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction can be a sign of a physical or psychological condition. It can cause stress, relationship strain, and low self-confidence. I suggest sex therapy.

Do not discontinue on your own without doctor's instructions. Even if you are feeling good it is better to taper off your medications to avoid any withdrawal symptoms and relapse. Different people react differently depending on their constitution and lifestyle. Your doctor who prescribed is your best bet.
