Sir I want to ask that m suffering from UTI the organism isolated found is Esch coli so I consulted a doctor here so he prescribed uroberry and fosirol and nitrofurantoin medicine becoz colony count is 10^5. I want to know if this bacteria is caused by sexual contact or not becoz he said that your partner is infected from this virus tell him to test once. Medicines are so costly and are not affordable. So what should I do. I searched in internet. Nothing like this I found that e coli is caused by being sexual involved. So what should I do. Should I tell my partner to get a urine culture. I don't have any idea about this and don't evn have enough money to do it privately. And don't know whether to trust my doctor or not becoz he is a government doctor and instead of treating us in the hospital for free he charges 500 rs for every single time for just meeting him. Please help me with my problem.

The doctor will treat you in hospital and if he refuses you can complain to authorities. E Coli is not spread by sexual contact.

I am 28 years old. 2nd pregnancy. 32 weeks. I have e.coli infection (urine infection). My regular gynaec is not available in clinic as it is a red zone. She advised to take nitrofurantoin 100 mg twice a day for 5 days. I want to know if that is safe to take now as I am already 32 weeks. Please advise.

Don't worry
Avoid nitrofurointoin during pregnancy
Take plenty of water daily
Take salads and fruits more before lunch and dinner regularly
Take following medication
Sy neeri by aimil pharma
20 ml in 200 ml water three times a day for 7 days

Pbm: burning while passing urine&frequent urination at night - 27th dec19 tests 1. Usg abdomen & pelvis:- * prostate is enlarged in size and measures 80-90 cc in volume. Median lobe of prostate is seen projecting into the bladder base. Visualised bowel loops are non-dilated and show normal peristalsis. No ascites is noted. * urinary bladder (ub) is well distended. Ub wall is normal. No visual calculus is seen. Pre void volume is 725 cc. Post void volume is 90-100 cc - significant. 2. Burning at above pt while passing urine&frequent urination at night. No burning in ub-sometimes burning in ub when filled-stops when emptied no sleep after 02.30 am.

Start silodal d 8 mg bedtime for 3 months. Do uroflowmetry. Consult a urologist. Decrease fluid content especially after 5 pm. Also take urispas 200 mg after breakfast for one month. Cap niftran 100 mg bd for 7 days.

I forgot my last dose of antibiotics (nitrofurantoin mono 100 mg for uti) yesterday night I should have taken my last antibiotic but I forgot and just remembered (16 instead of 12 hours later) should I take the last dose or not? How high is the risk of getting the uti again?

Dear Lybrateuser,
- you can take the dose, if you continue with the medication as prescribed & complete the course the the chances of getting it again are less, also have plenty of oral fluids including water (7-8 glasses per day).

I am suffering from urine infection from 5 months. As I take nitrofurantoin sustained released tablets it gets cure and after 15 days it start again. I an suffering with burning sensation and painful urine which I can not pass throughly.

Urine for culture and sensitivity.
If it's e.coli it may take 6-8 months.
No harm in taking nitrofurantoin.

I am 24, male. A year or two before I faced this problem of frequent urination, mostly at night. But then it went away on its own. Then, like 2 months ago it happened again with some irritation and burning sensation somewhere the near pelvis. A doctor prescribed me silodosin 4 mg (1x), flavoxate (1x) and nitrofurantoin 100 mg (2x). After taking the dosage for 2 days I had my usg done which was normal. So I just had nitrofurantoin for one more day and stopped the whole medication. But then it occurred again and this time nitrofurantoin is not working (took it for 3 days now) and the burning sensation and frequent urination is more severe. I am experiencing sleepless nights bcz of frequent urination, burning sensation. I can also hear and feel some gurgling sounds near the pelvis. Please help.

You should check your urine routine tests again to know whether there is any infection. After your give urine sample start nitrofurantoin 100 mg twice daily for seven days along with sildosin. Add syrup cital 3 teaspoons three times per day after meals. It is advisable to meet your doctor at earliest.

Both the sonography amd urine for culture and sensitivity reports were 100% normal. Can you prescribe some medicine which may cure the normal infection throughly as nitrofurantoin is causes a lot of dizziness and fatigue.

Take the one which is most sensitive and not damaging to your and kidney
drink plenty of water
you can alkalanise the urine also.
