Hi, in hyperthyroidism usually anti-thyroid drugs like neo-mercazole are given for about 18 to 24 months. After that if thyroid function has not reverted to normal then other options are considered. Those include surgical removal or using radio active iodine to ablate the thyroid secreting cells. Because if neo-mercazole has not been able to suppress the activity of thyroid gland even after using for 3 years, then it may not benefit much. So you will have look for above mentioned options. Hello, Thanks for the query.
For hyperthyroidism the doctor has prescribed the correct medication. Only dosage may have to be adjusted. TSH should come up to 3 to 4 mU/L, at which all the symptoms will be in check. There is no other medication. TSH needs to be checked more often say once in 6 to 8 weeks. Thanks.

Neo-Mercazole 10 mg Tablet is used in the treatment of hyperthyroidism. Neo-Mercazole 10 mg Tablet is an anti-thyroid medication. It works by reducing the amount of thyroid hormones produced by the thyroid gland. You need to give your full thyroid report as A low TSH with an elevated FT4 or FTI is found in individuals who have hyperthyroidism. The value 0.06 given by you is of which parameter?

Hello, Thanks for the query.
With 10 mg twice a day of Carbimazole, your TSH is still very low. Please tell me since how long this dosage is being taken? Because it takes over 6 to 8 weeks to show effect on TSH levels.
Usually treatment is continued for 12 to 18 months. In some cases up to 24 months. If thyroid levels become normal and TSH comes up, then treatment is discontinued. In some cases hyperthyroidism does not come back. But if it comes back, then other alternatives are con...more

Mr Arun Kumar, Thanks for the query.
I have seen the query. TSH 4.8 mU/L is in the normal range. That is good. Please let me know how log have you been taking Carbimazole 5 mg once a day? (Months or so)
Secondly did you have any symptoms ealier like palpitation, sweating, anxiety loss of sleep or disturbed sleep etc? Are those symptoms gone or reduced? Unless these details are known, it is difficult to give a clear answer. When was TSH 0.03 mU/L? Please let m know these details. Thanks...more
