Taking into consideration all the aspects of your health, it is better to control it in a modest way and not resorting to any aggressive changes ( either in lifestyle or medications ). A little more effort in keeping yourself acitve ( like walking or doing yoga ) can bring back the balance without causing any drastic imbalance in sugar levels.
