Dear Mr. lybrate-user,
Indeed you can fast even though you are diabetic and on insulin.
But with care and knowledge.
We need to have a proper consult.
I need to know all your medical conditions and medicines and insulin dosages.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
Insulin happens to be the best treatment for diabetes, because diabetes occurs due to its (insulin's) deficiency. Secondly if a person is having T1 Dm then only drug that can be used is Insulin. In T2 DM there are a number of oral drugs available. Since you have neither mentioned your age or type of diabetes, it is difficult to answer your question. My suggestion is please come back with following details: age, type of diabetes, weight, height, fasting & P...more

2) one teaspoon of methi seeds soaked overnight in 100 ml of water is very effective in controlling diabetes
3) good fats such as omega-3 and monounsaturated fats (mufa) should be consumed as they are good for the body.
4) diet should be high in fiber. Let whole grain cereals & flour, salad vegetables, green leafy vegetables & fruits be an integral pa...more

It's very essential to have a blood sugar level that can be controlled by oral medicines. If you're taking insulin it means your sugar is not under control. Get hba1c levels checked and also fasting and post prandial blood sugars at regular intervals. If the range is coming at an acceptable level you can be put on oral medicines.

Secondly, we may have do a proper titration of insulin dosage in relation to blood glucose levels. Plus there may be a need for introducing an additional drug or a long acting insulin.
