Dear Famish,
Mirtazapine is sedating. But in your case, it is NOT prescribed for sedation. Its antidepressant effect will be useful - not only in insomnia but also in other symptoms. The prescription starts with 7.5 mg and goes on building upto even 90 mg to get over depression. Generally the doctor will try with the lowest dose for 2-3 weeks and increase it depending on the benefit and side effects. Vortioxetine is comparatively a newer antidepressant and you have to try out the dose. Again...more

5 years means persistent depression (long term depression), so most likely life long treatment. Prepare your mind for this. It is like treating diabetes or hypertension, so don't worry. But meet your psychiatrist regularly and don't take these over the counter/ self medication, as they need monitoring and regular blood testing to find if there are any untoward effects. All the best.

I think that you have an anger-related depression. Anyway life is full of problems as a norm. Any attempts to escape will never help: you must learn to face these problems every day wi...more

The first step in treating addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn’t easy. But it’s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist /...more
