Dose adjustment needed. Insulin shd be given 2/3rd in the morning while I was remaining 1/3rd in the evening. That's the correct pattern. Cetapin is metformin only which is already there on amaryl m. You shd rather have medicine of another group. Call me if needed for proper treatment. Regards.

Hello, thanks for the query.
Both the products are same. The er refers to extended release, which means the drug is released slowly over 12 hours in the gut. That helps maintain a longer therapeutic level. It is beneficial more so if a person has any side effects like gastrointestinal disturbances if plain metformin is taken. Both are fine. Thanks.

Mr. Lybrate-User, thanks for the query.
I have seen the details, according to which you are saying even after taking metformin 500 mg, thrice a day blood glucose levels have not come down. Is that right? If so then there is a need to up grade the treatment. So contact your doctor and get it up graded. If you are looking for online help, then all the necessary details like current fasting, pp glucose levels, hba1c%, weight, height, diet pattern, extent of daily exercise, serum creatinine, ure...more

Lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
With metformin there may be some side effects like the ones described. However, if taken after food, the drug is better tolerated. Since there is no mention of glucose levels & HbA1c%, there is no idea how good the glucose control is.
Switching over to alternat therapies is your choice. There are no drugs that can reduce blood glucose or make pancreas secrete insulin in those therapies, even though a lot of false claims are made. Thanks.
