The difference is sr means sustained release, where the drug metformin is released over 12 hrs at a constant rate and the drug action is prolonged. Normal tablet releases the drug in about an hour or so, action lasts for lesser time. Sr tablets also produce lesser gastro intestinal side effects.

Glycomet only has metformin. No glimepiride. Both the drugs good for diabetes. None of the drug cause kidney problem. In kidney problem we take some special care in prescribing metformin.

It is not a good substitute as piz mf contains two medicines-pioglitazone 7.5 mg and metformin 500 mg while Glycomet contains only one-metformin 500 mg in sustained release form.

Since your glucose is quite well controlled and HbA1c% is 5.9 %, I do not see the reason for changing the treatment. In fact if diet is controlled by reducing a bit of carb intake, you will be able to achieve still better control. Even increasing physical activity would be more beneficial than adding any further drug. Tanks.

I would prefer that first you check again your medicine properly. Sitagliptin is not available in 20 mg. And more over I can see glycomet gp1, glyconorm g1, tetagliptin* (mostly teneligliptin) in your details.
And if you are checking your sugar levels with glucometer at home, then I would suggest you check once from laboratory and repeat hba1c also from good laboratory.

Glycomet trio forte 2 and glycomet trio 2 are different. There is difference of metformin not glimipiride so consult your doctor or on line discuss with me on line.

Dear lybrate-user ten 20 m 500 contains two medicines i.e teneligliptin 20 mg and metformin 500 mg, where as glycomet 500 sr contains only metformin 500 mg. This ten 20 m 500 is superior in action.

Hba1c is quite high. You need triple therapy. Monotherapy of metformin won't control sugar at this stage. Do exercise regularly and stick to diabetic diet. Feel free to call me or visit my diabetes clinic.
