I would suggest against steroid use in such little baby. First try antibiotics, its common in children as he is adjusting to external environment pathogen. It will help him as his immunity is developing. But if its quite bothersome then start antibiotics otherwise his body will cope up with it. Gradually.

Why do you want to skip omnacortil? Because it is a steroid?
Omnacortil can be taken for short duration, dose too is not high.
Do not stop it abruptly if you have taken it for more than a week
maxmala can cause sleep/drowsiness if taken in morning. Once a day at night should be enough.
