My mother aged 45 has been taking nitrofurantoin tablets for uti since 15 days. The abdomen pain goes sometimes and comes back again. In tests, ecoli is shown sensitive to nitrofurantoin. Still why the infection is not going away?

Uti is one of the cause of pain abdomen but not the only cause, there may be other disease overlapping uti, you should go for usg w/a, look for fever & repeat c/s.

If you have fear of taking that then use homeopathy sbl no 3 drops daily 2 times 20-20 drops should be taken in cup of normal water and it does not have any side effects also.

-have plenty of oral fluids including 8-10 glasses of water per day
- continue with medication, review with your treating doctor whether you have to continue taking medication further after the present course is over.

I forgot my last dose of antibiotics (nitrofurantoin mono 100 mg for uti) yesterday night I should have taken my last antibiotic but I forgot and just remembered (16 instead of 12 hours later) should I take the last dose or not? How high is the risk of getting the uti again?

- you can take the dose, if you continue with the medication as prescribed & complete the course the the chances of getting it again are less, also have plenty of oral fluids including water (7-8 glasses per day).
