If you are having anxiety daily. Consult years psychiatrist and take medicines accordingly. Melzap is a good medicine but taking it for longer time or prolonged period is not recommended. Thanks.

Dear Lybrate-User,
if the diagnosis is schizophrenia, the medication will be, most probably, life long. The tablets you are taking are not sedating. Your 11-12 hours sleep may be due to no work to do, not taking up the responsibilities, lazing in bed by habit, not finding pleasure in activity, etc. You need to undergo psychosocial rehabilitation without stopping these tablets.

Dear Karthik,
You have been diagnosed early and started on both mood stabiliser like licarb and luramax for bipolar depression. Please continue them as per doctor's advice. You have add cognitive behaviour therapy and cognitive remediation therapy to function better. If these therapies are not available, please continue your studies and find friends. Take part in physical exercises also.

We understand that you have been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and it is not unusual that people with this problem take medications for a very long time, probably for a lifetime. However, like your psychiatrist has rightly advised you might want to decrease the dose to find out how you function on a daily basis while being on the lower dose before going further. The medications that you mention are the usual medications that are used in schizoaffective disorder.

Lithium level is normal only, so lithium can be continued if other blood parameters are fine. On your mood symptoms discuss the lack of improvement with your treating psychiatrist, and try alternate medications if needed. Being open about no improvement will lead to the doctor taking note and doing away with medications that do not work. All the best.
