You can take a basugine (glargine) substitute for lantus it comes in vial form and much cheaper.
Ask your diabetologist to shift you from rapid acting lispro (humalog) to regular insulin (actrapid) which is cheaper but you need to take it 30 mins before each meal as action is little slower.

In long standing diabetes pt whose beta cells are exhausted and who is obese insulin requirement may go beyond 2-3 units/kg. HbA1c is approx average of blood sugar control in last 3 months. More HbA1c means more uncontrolled diabetes and may require more insulin.
Normally diabetologist starts insulin considering age of patient, duration of dm, HbA1c...more

Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query.
I have seen the details given. Your fasting glucose is quite good, but pp is quite high. Ideally it should be around 150 to 170 mg. What is the hba1c%? At your age it should be maintained < 7%. Please let me know what is question in your mind? Also please let me know whether you are only on insulin (mixstard & actrapid) or also taking any oral anti-diabetics. In diabetes apart from drugs, dietary control and regular exercise as well as weight control a...more

Hello, Thanks for the query. It is essential to monitor blood glucose almost every day and then adjust the Insulin dosages. First you should target correcting the fasting dose, Since fasting is 107 mg, then you can target post lunch glucose level by adjusting prelunch insulin dosage. Similarly predinner glucose should be tested and then Insulin dose has to be adjusted. This is a constant process. You have monitor glucose levels till a regular expected level is reached. Thanks.
