Top Reasons Why You Should Bathe Regularly!

Top Reasons Why You Should Bathe Regularly!

While many of us wish we could stay under the shower all day in the summers, winters and lazy Sundays find many of us making excuses to skip a shower. However, having a shower not only keeps you clean, but also plays an important part in keeping you healthy and fit. According to Ayurveda, a morning shower is an essential part of the daily routine and is considered as a therapeutic activity.

Here are a few reasons you should never skip a morning shower.

  1. Calms your muscles: A shower reduces tension in your muscles and can help relax sore muscles. It also helps increase flexibility and muscle elasticity. If you’ve slept awkwardly and woken up with a stiff neck, a shower can help ease the stress and make you more comfortable. Thus, a simple shower could save you a visit to the physiotherapist.
  2. Boosts blood circulation: Showering with warm water increases blood circulation and ensures that even cells in your extremities receive nutrition. Increased blood circulation also reduces pressure on your heart and protects you against a number of cardiovascular ailments.
  3. Boosts the immune system: The core function of taking a shower is to clean the body. This reduces the number of bacteria and fungal cells that can infect you. A cold shower also stimulates the vascular and lymph system and promotes the production of white blood cells that fight infections. Showering also helps eliminate toxins that are released along with sweat.
  4. Elevates the mood: If you’re feeling blue, a shower may be what you need. Having a cold water shower activates the nervous system and increases the amount of chemicals such as beta-endorphins and noradrenaline in the blood. These chemicals help fight depression and elevate the mood. Additionally, a cold water shower also sends electrical impulses that have an anti-depressive effect from the brain.
  5. Improves lung functionality: When you put your head under water, you are forced to breathe differently. Showering makes you take a deep breath and hold it in for a few seconds before exhaling. This action opens up your lungs and increases your oxygen intake.
  6. Makes you more sociable: It’s simple; when you bathe, you smell good. This makes people want to be around you and it boosts your confidence. You’re also less worried about your hair looking oily or your shoulders being dusted with dandruff when you’ve taken a shower and hence, you can focus your attention on conversations.

Therefore, many health problems can be averted if you take a shower daily.

Haemoglobin - Diet To Enhance It!

Haemoglobin - Diet To Enhance It!

Haemoglobin is a protein rich in iron and is found in red blood cells. The main function of haemoglobin is to carry oxygen throughout the body. In other words, it carries oxygen from the lungs to the other parts of the body so that the cells can carry on with their basic functions. It also carries carbon dioxide back to the lungs from those cells so that this gas can be exhaled.

Haemoglobin is important for maintaining a healthy life. The normal levels of haemoglobin in the human body include:

• 14-18g/dl for adult men
• 12-16g/dl for adult women

Foods that improve haemoglobin:

  1. Consume iron-rich food products: According to the National Anaemia Action Council, lack of iron is the most common cause behind low haemoglobin levels. To improve iron content in your blood, you can take asparagus, tofu, almonds, oysters, fortified breakfast cereals, liver, red meat, shrimp, spinach, dates and lentils. However, consult your doctor for the right intake, as too much consumption of iron may be harmful to your health.
  2. Improve your vitamin C intake: Absorption of iron is improved if vitamin C is taken in adequate quantities. Lemon, tomatoes, papaya, oranges, strawberries, bell peppers, broccoli, grapefruit, etc. are some of the fruits that are rich in vitamin C. In fact, if there is a deficiency of vitamin C in our blood, haemoglobin levels go down. You may also take vitamin supplements to improve haemoglobin in your body, but consult a doctor first.
  3. Focus on food items rich in folic acid: This acid is basically vitamin B complex, which is required to make red blood cells. Food products that are rich in folic acid include rice, liver, breakfast cereals, sprouts, dried beans, wheat germ, peanuts etc. A diet comprising 200-400 milligrams of foliates is enough to supplement your Vitamin B needs.
  4. Include beetroot as a part of your diet: Rich in iron, folic acid, fibres and potassium, beetroot helps in augmenting haemoglobin levels. Drinking beetroot juice daily increases the iron content in your red blood cells.
  5. Have apples: They are rich in iron and if you have an apple daily, then your haemoglobin level will improve significantly. If possible, take a green apple with its skin. Apple juice mixed with beetroot juice has a marked effect on haemoglobin levels. You can also add some ginger or lemon juice to this mixture and have the concoction twice a day.
  6. Eat blackstrap molasses: This food is rich in iron, vitamin, folic acid etc and improves the haemoglobin level in your blood. Take 2 tablespoons of blackstrap molasses and apple cider vinegar each, mix them in a cup of water and drink this concoction once a day.

Emotionally Upset - 10 Ways You Can Get Over It!

Emotionally Upset - 10 Ways You Can Get Over It!

Life has its ups and downs, but often we hold on to the downs for much longer than the actual event. While the trigger or anger, pain and hurt are beyond our control, the amount it can affect us is well within reach. Here are a few ways to cope better with emotional upsets.

  1. Give yourself a window to be upset: Be realistic and give yourself a time frame to give in to your emotions. Whether, angry, sad or frustrated tell yourself that you have only 1 day to be upset. In a way, this will diffuse the anger, frustration and once this time is over, you can start planning ahead.
  2. Take responsibility: Try analysing what you may have done to make the other person react in the way he or she did. Focus on what you could have done better and you will find yourself feeling more empowered.
  3. Get physical: Exercise and other forms of physical activity decrease stress hormones and increases the productions of endorphins or happy hormones that elevate the mind. Exercising also gives you time to focus on yourself without distractions.
  4. Express yourself: Whether it’s through art or writing, find an outlet for your emotions. This keeps it from being bottled up inside and gets the pain and frustration out of your system.
  5. Breathe: Breathing techniques like ujayii and anulom vilom can help calm the mind down when it is troubled and upset. These breathing techniques also keep your emotions from escalating.
  6. Get company: It is never a good idea to isolate yourself when you’re feeling blue. Instead, find people who you can open up to and share your thoughts with. This will give you a fresh perspective on what is going on.
  7. Look at both sides: No event is ever completely bad. No matter what may be troubling you look at both the good and bad sides of it. This can help minimise your loss and make it easier to let go of the problem.
  8. Do something different: The best way to get your mind off something is to give it something else to focus on. If you’re troubled by something that happened at work, go for a drive or play a sport. Similarly, if you’re having relationship trouble, go out with a few friends or read a book to take your mind off it.
  9. Visualize: Imagine the person or the event that is upsetting you as an object in your mind and visualise it melting away. Remind yourself that the anger or frustration you are feeling is worse than the person or event itself.
  10. Clean up: Organise your desk, your room or start cleaning up space around you. This will take attention away from whatever is troubling you and give you something to do.

Hello, thanks for the query. Erectile dysfunction (ed), is one of the most common complications of diabetes. It occurs due to the damage to microvasculature supplying the penile muscles. If blood glucose levels are not in good control (fasting < 100 mg or closer to 100 mg, pp 150 to 170 mg & hba1c% < 6.8%), then ed is seen quite often. There is no mention of your blood glucose control at all. It is necessary to look at overall treatment, including above details, diet pattern, the extent of daily exercise, weight & height. The tablet mentioned (by you) may be tried. There is no proven clinical evidence. There are other drugs called pde - iv inhibitors which can be beneficial. Thanks.

Male Pattern Baldness - Know PRP Role In It!

Male Pattern Baldness - Know PRP Role In It!

PRP (platelet rich plasma) therapy is the process used for hair loss. This includes a three-step treatment in which a patient’s blood is withdrawn, treated, and then inoculated into the scalp.

Some of the medical communities think that PRP therapy affects natural growth and it is maintained by increasing the flow of blood to the hair follicle and thus increase in the thickness of the hair shaft.

Researchers have not yet found whether it is an effective treatment or not. However, PRP therapy is in use since the 1980s and has been used for various problems including healing ligaments, injured tendons, and muscles.

PRP Therapy Process-

PRP therapy process comprises of three steps and mostly requires three treatments with the gap of 4-6 weeks. Maintenance treatment is required every 4-6 months.

The steps are:

Step 1: The blood from the arm is withdrawn and put into a machine that separates fluids of different densities by spinning rapidly, known as centrifuge.

Step 2: After the blood is in the machine (centrifuge) for 10 minutes, it will get divided into three distinct layers:

  • Platelet-poor plasma

  • Red blood cells

  • Platelet-rich plasma

Step 3: After this, the platelet-rich plasma is moved into a syringe and inoculated into the areas of the scalp that needs to be treated for hair growth.

Risks of PRP Hair Loss-

Before the therapy starts, be very sure to inform about all the medications one is going through, whether it is any kind of supplements or herbs.

When a person is on the initial stage of the consultation, many consultants will recommend against the therapy if a person is:

  • On blood thinners

  • A chain smoker

  • Having a history of any drugs or alcohol misuse

A person can also be rejected from the treatment if he/she has been diagnosed with:

If one is concerned about the hair loss there are several other options such as medications like Rogaine (a liquid or foam to treat the hair loss) and Propecia (is an oral medicine that can be consumed for hair loss) and hair transplant surgery.

Before going through any treatment consult with the doctor so that he can advise you better according to the condition one is going through.

Hi Sir, Could you please tell me the cost of cbt and any good hospital for cbt over 2 or 3 years.
Hello and welcome to Lybrate. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Cbt is a evidence based therapeutic procedure. Each cbt session should cost from rs. 500 to rs. 1000. Cbt is done by psychologists not in every hospitals. The duration depends on the intensity of the psychological disorder. Cbt can also be done online, through video or audio consultation. I suggest telephonic counseling and online cbt for you. You can contact me for further advice and treatment options. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.

Television Actor Ram Kapoor's Shocking Weight Loss Transformation!

Television Actor Ram Kapoor's Shocking Weight Loss Transformation!

Actor Ram Kapoor recently took the internet by storm, after he posted recent pictures of his extreme weight loss transformation. His journey from ‘fat to fit’ has left his fans stunned, and inspired many to strive towards a healthier lifestyle.

Reportedly, the Bade Achhe Lagte Ho actor, who previously weighed 130 Kgs, turned to intermittent fasting and intense workouts to shed the extra kilos. The 45-year old actor revealed that it took him 2 years to achieve his goal.

The method he employed was intermittent fasting with regular workouts. Let’s take a look at his diet and exercise regime.

Workout Regime -

To start with, the actor directly hits the gym every morning on an empty stomach and does heavy weight training. At night, just before going to bed, he makes sure he engages in some intense cardio workout to sweat it out.

Fitness experts suggest that a combination of cardiovascular exercise and weight training work best for weight loss. While cardio exercises like running, jogging, and cycling helps burn calories, heavy weight training helps build muscles and gives you a fitter, toned look.

Diet Plan -

The actor stuck to intermittent fasting to go from fat to fit. For those, who are not familiar with the term, Intermittent Fasting is a diet plan, which cycles between periods of eating and fasting over a defined period. It does not specify the kinds of food one should eat, but rather when one should eat. The 16/8 intermittent fasting method involves eating during an 8-hour window and fasting for the remaining 16 hours over a period of 24 hours.

Regardless of the time of consuming food, it is advised that you consume light snacks and small meals several times, spaced evenly throughout the day. Try to balance each meal with a variety of nutritious foods, which includes vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Remember, you are not allowed to eat anything solid during the fasting period. However, one can drink beverages like coffee, tea and water during the period. Nevertheless, keep a check on the calories you intake.

Pros and Cons of Intermittent Fasting -

Intermittent fasting has gained immense popularity owing to its long-term benefits on health. Here are some advantages of the diet plan –

  • Promotes weight loss – restricting calorie intake to a few hours help burn calories throughout the day, boosts metabolism and promotes weight loss

  • Improved blood glucose control – intermittent fasting lowers levels of fasting insulin by up to 31% and reduces blood glucose by 3-6%, potentially lowering your risk of diabetes

  • Enhanced longevity – this type of diet has been associated with extended longevity

Despite the many health benefits, intermittent fasting does come with a few drawbacks, including the following –

  • Limiting food intake to only 8 hours may lead some people to consume more than usual during non-fasting periods in an attempt to make up for the hours spent fasting, eventually leading to digestive problems and weight gain

  • If you are just getting started with intermittent fasting, it may take a toll on your health, causing symptoms like weakness, fatigue, and increased hunger

Therefore, consider both the pros and cons of intermittent fasting before you start off with your weight loss journey.

Precautions to Take in Intermittent Fasting -

16/8 intermittent fasting can improve your health when paired with an active, healthy lifestyle and nutritious foods. It should not be viewed as a substitute for a well-rounded, balanced diet. Here are a few precautionary measures to take while turning to this type of diet pattern –

  • Shorten your fasting periods

  • Eat in small quantities on days when you are fasting

  • Stay hydrated

  • Meditate or go for short walks

  • Do not break your fast with a huge meal

  • Include enough protein in your diet

  • Consume plenty of whole foods on days when you are not fasting

These tips will help you get going as you turn to intermittent fasting. In case you feel unwell, stop fasting at once and consult a doctor.

Intermittent fasting is easy to follow and sustainable and flexible in the long term. Although this type of diet is considered usually safe for most adults, you should discuss the diet plan with your doctor before trying it, especially if you have a history of an underlying medical condition.
