Dear Sumit,
Lorazepam is used initially to control withdrawal symptoms of alcohol. It is tapered off within 2-3 weeks depending on the withdrawal symptoms. Nobody continues it for 2 years. Probably you are taking it by yourself. Luckily you have not increased from 2 mg. Please take MET, motivational enhancement therapy weekly for 12 weeks to withdraw yourself off lorazepam. Please don't withdraw suddenly and fully like alcohol. Gradually over several weeks, reduce and stop. All under supervi...more

Sir, I recommend that you go for counseling along with the medication. Anxiety is abnormal fear because you are not handling normal scare for a long time, I think. Anxiety has all to do with fear and your inability (or so you would tend to think) to handle the same. Fear is based on looking too much into the future and imagining things that usually do not tend to happen (usually 90% of your fears will not happen) and expecting too much out of yourself. You need to change your perception of the f...more

Hi lybrate-user,
the issues you are facing are not relevant to neurology. It's in your best interest if you consult a psychiatrist in person and discuss regarding possibility of anxiety or depressive disorder. He/she will probably prescribe you some antidepressant medicine which the neurologist might not think of.
Regards.

Dear, psychiatric medications are not meant to get dependent on them. You may have got relief the first time in a month period and that is a good sign that your body had ability to recover fast. May be your anxiety was not complicated by factors which may be present now. This time if your anxiety is not getting controlled, its better either you visit another doctor or simply ask him to change medicines. If he doesn't do that, then its better you should try Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) this t...more

Its okay if you have stopped it and not experiencing any problem while stopping abruptly. Consuming lorazepam especially in long term is mostly done by people who have developed dependence or addiction akin to alcohol dependence. It is harmful but it's difficult to comment actually how much damage it has incurred, though some of the effects are recoverable but some may not. So its advisable to take any pill under the supervision of doctor, I wish you do not start them again by yourself!
