Some medicines are not healthy to use whether it may be for short time period long time period, there r certain harmful side effects those medicines causes later after leaving using them. It is easy to get toxicity and thyroid and kidney tests should be done regularly as long term use of lithium use. Also, there is no scientific evidence that lithium helps with OCD. There are several safe medications that can help with OCD.

Lithium carbonate is a simple salt. It does not irritate the stomach too much if you got used to it, say after 1-2 weeks. You can even take it afternoon and night. After few months of getting used to the drug, you can take all 600 mg at night itself so that you will not forget.
During the day you tend to postpone taking the tablet and may forget also. So take it in such a way that you will not forget.
