Dear Lybrate-User,
the same medicine lithium carbonate will be available in canada, not in the same name (lalithium xr). Please check on the dose, calculate total dose per day and check the strength of the tablet that is available. Take a summary of your husband's treatment and prescription from your doctor, to carry medicines for few months in canada. It is better to find a psychiatrist and check serum lithium level with newer company's lithium carbonate.

You did not mention what was the diagnsis, I guess it could be Bipolar disorder, Weight gain is commonly seen in patients while on Olanzepine and to some extent Lithium also (Lithic). When she is showing good response it is advisable not to change medication. To counter weight gain ask her to reduce or avoid fatty foods, and do exercise to the extent. Get her evaluated for possible reduction or change certain medication.
