Lantus is a basal insulin which means it gives a fairly same level of control over approximately 24 hrs. Ryzodeg is a combination of aspart which acts quickly to control your post meal sugar, and degludec which acts over 24 hrs. Its in a fixed combination (30/70) so any change in the total dose will compulsorily change both the components in the same proportion causing hypo or hyperglycemia. Are you a type 1 diabetic? because in that case its better not to take the premixed ryzodeg. Rather lantu...more

You can take a basugine (glargine) substitute for lantus it comes in vial form and much cheaper.
Ask your diabetologist to shift you from rapid acting lispro (humalog) to regular insulin (actrapid) which is cheaper but you need to take it 30 mins before each meal as action is little slower.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
The blood glucose 471 mg (either random or PP, it can not be both), is too high. It means your present treatment is very inadequate. This needs to be upgraded. Please tell me whether you are on only Insulin or also take any oral antidiabetic drugs? Or you have T1 or T2 diabetes?
Ideally in well controlled diabetes fasting glucose should be < 100 mg, PP 150 to 170 mg & HbA1c% <6.8. So there is need to give a detailed look at the treatment. Hence, if...more

Novorapid is a short, rapid acting insulin that is typically given in 3 shots/ day (called Bolus insulins shots), with each major meal. It is more convenient to give this insulin in the hospital, when patients are admitted for infection/ surgery/ procedures/ delivery etc. Eglucent Mix 25 is a premixed insulin that contains two components; 25% of short, rapid acting and 75% of intermediate acting insulins. This needs to be taken only twice daily and hence, more convenient for the out patient.

Mixtard has both long-acting and fast-acting insulin. So the fast-acting might cover your meal, but the long-acting will continue to drop blood sugar for 6+ hours. If you're taking both lantus and mixtard you are doubling up on your basal insulin. Lantus (insulin glargine) is effective, long-acting insulin that provides all-day blood sugar control, but it can cause low blood sugar levels, so be sure to have a source of sugar nearby.

It's generic version of lantus. Dose conversion is 1 unit lantus equals 1 unit basalog.
Some patients do develop high sugars after changing from lantus to basalog.
So adjust dose after changing insulin based on your fasting sugars.
