My dad has been suffering from bleeding from anus, irritation in that area, itching, severe pain, constipation. He says that it hurts down there even when he coughs or sneezes or whenever he tries to urinate. He consulted a gastro today who did his proctoscopy and told him to have a laser fisserectomy on monday. He says that the condition is pretty bad but we have to wait 3 more days for the surgery as my dad was taking blood-thinners (because he had a heart attack in 2016). What worries me the most is that he is complaining of constipation since the last 2-3 days despite of taking laxatives like lactulose syrup and kularsh ayurvedic tablets. My main question is is there any need for a colonoscopy before having surgery to check why is he having constipation? I am worried about it. Is there anything other than fissures which should be checked? And will the doctor put him under sleep before the procedure?

No colonoscopy can not find out cause of constipation. Secondly they generally give local anaesthesia. Don’t worry. It’s simple procedure. 1. Take home cooked, fresh light food. Take a lot of green vegetables n fruit. 2. Increasing the fibre in your diet is known to be as effective as injections for preventing further problems
3. Increasing your fluid intake which can help prevent further problems with haemorrhoids
4. Avoiding straining and constipation which is the most useful thing...more

I have constipation for past 3- 4 weeks. I took dulcolax about 3 weeks back and I passed stool but when last week I got really constipated, I avoided taking dulcolax and this monday and tuesday I really fell sick and couldn't pass any stool and couldn't eat anything and used to vomit out when taking water in high quantity. So I took 2 pills of dulcolax on monday and 2 pills of another medication that the chemist had prescribed on tuesday and drank lots of electral on tuesday so I passed watery stool on tuesday, yesterday again I passed some stool but today again am having problem passing stool. What is the solution to this chronic constipation I have got since the location, earlier I used to get constipated sometimes and sometimes during periods but this has become chronic now particularly for the past 1- 1.5 months or so. How do I get rid of it. Also, is it advisable to take isabgol/ triphala and for how long. What is lactulose. Are there any other remedies. I am really worried because I got very sick on monday and tuesday and now again am having problem passing stool.

Hi
• have warm water early in the morning.
• fiber rich diet.
• steamed vegetables
• banana at breakfast daily.
• Cut down on coffee, milk products.
• Regular walks and exercise . Constipation cause piles, fissures which in turn cause pain, bleeding, burning sensation.. it is permanently curable by homoeopathy. The need for daily laxatives can be drastically brought down with the homeopathic medicines.

My 4 year old daughter has suffered with severe chronic constipation since birth. When she was born she was admitted in the neonatal for 9 days due to abdominal distention, feed intolerance, suspected sepsis, vomiting bright green bile and Meconium Ileus. She did not pass her meconium for 33 hours and it was passed due to a paediatrician giving her a suppository. It's now getting worse as she is getting older. She suffers with abdominal distention, leakages, agonising pain, passing a lot of gas and cannot walk sometimes due to the pain. She has been on 5 different laxatives (lactulose, movicol, docusate, sodium picosulfate and sennakot) now of them have worked and she has also had 2 enemas that did not work also. She has had a biopsy done for Hirschsprung's disease and it came back normal and all her bloods are normal as well. She is missing a lot of school due to this and her doctors don't seem to think it's serious but after all the medication she's had I think differently. She used to pass a stool and get some relief for a few weeks now it's just days till the pain starts all over again like she isn't getting any relief at all anymore. It can be 3 weeks before she passes a stool. I've done some research and seen that meconium ileus can be related to cystic fibrosis and I've seen that you can have it in the digestive system also. Could this be a possibility for her?

It is really strange for me to understand how she is tolerating absolute constipation for 3 weeks. It is advisable to get her thoroughly checked in good teaching institutions like AIIMS/PGI Chandigarh etc.
