Simmyji,First thing is what type of diabetes is having T1 or T2? If it is T1 then only treatment is taking Insulin injections. If T2 then looking at his glucose levels one can think of adjusting the drug treatment. But usually insulin is given for improperly controlled diabetes and also for those who have very high sugar levels or have HBA1c% more than 8 to 9 %.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
Insulin dose decided on the basis of blood glucose level both fasting and after food. Plus there are different types of insulins, it is not which one you are using. There are rapid acting and long acting insulins plus combination of both.
It is given in units per dose, not as ml. Taking excess insulin is not advised. It causes hypoglycemia. Thanks.

Dear lybrate-user I can understand your situation 4 times a prick will be very painful, I really need few more blood sugars levels so that I can actually help you. And keeping your age and long standing diabetes we do have better insulin which will help reduce blood sugars, with no hypoglycemia.
