Jst by seeing the psychologist report and asking some questions prescribed me with:- inspiral, flocin plus and pexup. I took these medicines for 2 days and started feeling very lethargic. I immediately stopped and google abt their side effects which were terrifying. And somehow I feel that they have affected me badly. I was not able to gv my exams well .went completely blank seeing the paper. It’s been 2 months now but I still feel that I cannot connect with people. Sometimes get completely lost. Please advise that does taking these medicines only for 2 days effect a person or am I jst over thinking. Waiting for your advice desperately.

Taking the psychiatric medications for two days will not have lasting effects on how your condition reacts. The fact that you were not made aware of the side effects or told that you might need to tolerate some adverse effects for a couple of days before things start looking up is the problem with the medications. I believe that your anxiety has many causes and that your problems are related to your not wanting to get treated for your problems with medications and your anxiety just rises if they...more

Dear Lybrate user
we would recommend you discuss the same with the psychiatrist. Psychiatrists can help in identifying whether to increase the dose or decrease it. Along with it, you have to make some lifestyle changes as well like adopting a physical exercise routine - gyming, yoga, cycling, etc. Consult a dietician for a healthy diet routine like avoiding too much sugar and carbs. Additionally to all these, you may try analyzing how this condition is affecting your life - relationship, wor...more

I am under treatment for severe adhd. I’ve been prescribed concert and medicines (methylphenidate) but haven’t responded well to it. After a couple days I stopped because I was having a lot of anxiety and some other minor side effects, but I did’t feel any improvement. If I try ritalin would it be different? I know that it is the same substance just not the same delivery mechanism but does it have the mechanism of action. Or maybe I should try the same medications i’ve been prescribed a little longer and see if it has a different effect? I figured that I should conclude on the effectiveness and respond of the substance on my brain the first time I took it as it is a stimulant but I am not sure. I want to try amphetamine based stimulants but they are’t available in france (there is one -attention 5 mg, a form of dexamfetamine- but it is extremely difficult to have it prescribed). I will soon be on strattera (atomoxetine) and I wonder after a few weeks when it should normally reach its effectiveness will it “work” like a stimulant? I mean will the effects be felt on a daily basis after taking the pill? Thank you.

Hello! sounds to me like you are feeling quite confused and frustrated in the moment. It may be helpful for you to continue the dosage prescribed by your psychiatrist. Sometimes medicines take time to work. All medicines need to be taken for the time they have been given. The regimen matters in psychiatric medication. Unlike other meds, we can not choose to reduce dosage or stop taking. That being said, finish the course and then go to psychiatrist to explain side effects. Sometimes side effects...more

I am a man age 42, an engineer with a lot of mental workload. My psychiatrist gave me ritalin 10 mg to overcome my depressed feeling, sleepy mood and passive condition (lack of confidence in my activities and work). It helped me with my concentration too. I took it a quarter, half or 3 quarters. The good feeling and active mood goes away after a couple of hours and I have to take a new piece again. The doctor has told me my total daily dosage of ritalin should’t go beyond two tablets. Recently I am taking metride 18 mg (prolong- release methylphenidate hydrochloride). It is not a breakable tablet, but one tablet keeps me positive all days long. The problem is I feel stressful and fearful when I get it, just opposite to when I take ritalin. Ritalin makes me very happy and laugh around a lot, which is not good for my job situation. I am thinking about microdoses of cannabis, as read about it in papers. In general, I need something that boost my self-confidence, gives me concentration, takes me out of sleepy and tiered mood and makes me active. And more important, a safe dosage that does’t damage my brain’s cells. I appreciate if you can give me help and idea to overcome my problem. For sure, for any usage and taking medicine, I go to my psychiatrist first and I receive his prescription. However, I need your medical help and idea to know what I have to look for. Thanks.

I was diagnosed with severe ADHD recently & prescribed with ritalin by the doctor. Usually, I count a number of letters a word when I read something & I stopped driving long before because I can't focus plus I can't speak spontaneously. I started by taking 4 tablets of inspiral ir 5 mg on the first day & something unexpected happened. After a couple of hours I rapidly felt like I was a superhuman. My concentration boosted abnormally & I begun to speak like a most experienced stage speaker. The whole world seemed positive & the depression zeroed. I felt this effect for about 4 hours & it rapidly ward off as it was immediate release dose. The next day with same optimism I took 2 tablets of inspiral sr 20 mg at once hoping that it will last for a day as it is a sustained release version. But the results were drastic. I'm depressed like hell. I felt like someone was squeezing my eyes out & my head felt so heavy. I had mild anxiety & absolutely out of the mood to do nothing but to lie down. I read a passage about 10 times to get the meaning because my concentration & motivation was down. It was so irritating, restless & jittery. Felt terrible being dizzy all day but was better than the situation without medications my doctor is off for a couple of months & what should I do now? What must be the reason for the change of effects between an immediate release & sustained release of the same medication? What would you suggest me to do? Inspiral is the perfect drug as I feel but the dosage & type of drug release brings in the problems. Have my brain built a tolerance to the drug all in one day? I want the good effects of the medication for at least 9 hours & how would you suggest me to alter the dosage? Please help me with this. Thanks in advance with hope!

I understand that you are suffering from adhd or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and that you will be able to feel better once the medication has been optimized. If your psychiatrist is out of town you may be able to consult online, however there are many other ways in which your problem of attention deficits as well as difficulties with depression can be solved. I strongly advice you to consult your previous doctor since the dosages may need to be up-titrated more slowly and in the mea...more
