Madam most of the currently used drugs in treating diabetes are quite safe. Metformin is in use for over 60 years. Glimiperide is in use over 20 years and is very well tolerated.

You have to monitor your blood sugar every three month and consult doctor If the blood sugar level is high. Go for regular exercise,reduce your weight,control your diet. Consult doctor for dis continuation of medicine

Once you conceive you can stop glycomet and till than exercise regularly till you have sweating and at any point of time you have giddines than get your sugar checked at that time and concentrate on weight reduction and continuation of glycomet depends on how much insulin resistance you have and how much obese you are.

Hello, thanks for the query.
You have just mentioned about having diabetes and taking metformin 850 mg (how many times is not given). Plus there is no information on glucose levels (fastiing, pp & hba1c%), nothing about your dietary pattern weight, height and extent of exercise as well as lipid profile. whether to reduce the dosage I would like to know both fasting & pp levels plus hba1c%. Usually reducing the dosage is bit unlikely to happen.

Gestational diabetes (diabetes detected during pregnancy) is quite common in india. Usually a 75 g glucose is given for doing a oral glucose tolerance test (ogtt), to detect gestational diabetes. Gdm is diagnosed if 2 hour blood sugar is above 140 mg. The recommended management is to start the patient on medical nutrition and help control blood sugar for 2 - 3 weeks if not controlled, start on insulin injections. Oral drugs are not recommended.
