The drugs mentioned Glimepiride and Voglibose are different in their action.
Metformin is supposed to reduce or delay glucose absorption and hence slows down blood glucose rise after taking food. Plus it also reduces insulin resistance hence helps blood glucose control. There are other beneficial effects like helps slight weight reduction.

your father seems to be quite overweight and he may need anti diabetic medications that help with weight reduction. You may have to consult online for further changes to medication
in the meantime I suggest the following
monitor blood sugars with glucometer as follows. Fasting and pp on wednesday and 2 hour after lunch and after dinner on sunday and maintain a record. If your fasting values are > 120 and pp values go above 180, reduce the quantity of carbohydrate (...more

Dear Mr. lybrate-user, I note that your fasting blood sugar is under better control after you changed your medication. However your post meal blood sugar is on the high side and I note that your weight is only 60 kg which is a bit low for your height. Check with your family doctor about the need to take insulin for improving diabetes control and to gain weight to optimal body weight
