You can take a basugine (glargine) substitute for lantus it comes in vial form and much cheaper.
Ask your diabetologist to shift you from rapid acting lispro (humalog) to regular insulin (actrapid) which is cheaper but you need to take it 30 mins before each meal as action is little slower.

Mixtard has both long-acting and fast-acting insulin. So the fast-acting might cover your meal, but the long-acting will continue to drop blood sugar for 6+ hours.
