The most commonly used medications for managing excessive sweating are anticholinergics. These include medicines such as: glycopyrrolate, oxybutynin, benztropine, propantheline, and others. Many hyperhidrosis patients experience success with anticholinergic therapy. ... Their use for hyperhidrosis is thus “off-label”.

I am 47-year old male. I am suffering from excess salivation from more than 3 months. I am on regular medicines for thyroid (thyronorm 50 mcg), bp (stamlo 5 mg 2 times per day) and anxiety (paxidep cr 12.5 mg). I had consulted few physicians on mfine and had undergone treatments for gerd (rabium dsr, mucaine gel, pantocid, rantac), allergy (bilastine) and vitamin-b/c/d deficiency (dries, limcee, neorbian forte) etc. But was not giving any results. I continued to use mouthwash, polo and hyocimax/buscopan tablets for temporary relief. I also stopped ashwagandha which I was taking from 6 months to rule out any issues due to that as per doctor advise. Also, full body checkup report from thyrocare did not reveal any other issue. Then, I had consulted ent on apollo24*7 and usg of neck/parotid came complete normal (suspicion was for stone). Then, I consulted dental as per ent referral and they did deep cleaning. After that, I was referred to gastro for endoscopy but that doctor did not find reason for endoscopy and suggested me to go rather for neuro consultation. After that, I consulted neurologist who gave me tablet for glycopyrolette and somehow, that gave me some good relief. At least, it is in control from last few days. I have done brain mri too just for precaution (as I had attenuation of sylvian branches issues in 2013) but right now, it is 100% normal. So, right now, it is in somewhat control with glycopyrolette tablets though doctor suggested that it is just symptomatic relief and for long-term, I should look towards alternative treatment. Let me know if this is something I can/should look for and can get root cause and permanent relief without adding another tablet for lifetime. If any more tests needed to rule out any other possibility - I would be happy to go for that. I would be more happy for ayurvedic or homeopathic options as I have lost trust in allopathy the way doctors are not even able to diagnose basic things and bouncing from one doctor to other. Of course, if any other test can give root cause, I would be fine for that.

It is good that you have some relief with glycopyrrolate. Sometimes it is very difficult to find the cause of a symptom and the best we can do would be to provide relief.
I would like to know how long have you been diagnosed to have depression and how long are you taking paxidep. Excessive salivation might be part of depression itself. Modulating the dose of your medicine will help. Please feel free to contact for further evaluation.

Although excessive saliva is not too common, there are a number of conditions that can cause it - some harmless, others more serious. It is possible that your saliva problems are just a result of the way you speak. Some people speak faster or slower than others, just as some people blink more often, breathe faster, or have a more rapid heartbeat. This may just be what's normal for you. Since it is negatively affecting your life, I suggest your problem can be ignored. However there are medical co...more
