consult your physician regarding continuation of gabapentin. If you're feeling better with tablets then start with back stretching exercises and strengthening exercises. Start walking daily for 20 min. Change your lifestyle like avoid sitting for long time, avoid bending forward lifting heavy weights. Keep check on your body weight.

The symptoms of peripheral neuropathy like burning pain or irritation, those can be effectively controlled by using certain medications like gabapentine, pragabalin & methylcobalamineetc. But it is difficult to "cure" those. The reason is those are part of the long term complications of diabetes mellitus. Neuropathy tends to be more severe and repetitive if blood glucose is not in proper control.
