What your wife is facing is a side effect of the tablets she is taking. Amitriptyline causes drowsiness. But if she manages to take for few more days, she will get used to the tablet. It is harmless since she will go to toilet and eat food if given. Otherwise stop and start it later. One can reduce the dose of amitriptyline to 10 mg or 1/2 of 25 mg for a week and then increase to 25 mg.
