Superfoods may seem a bit overhyped, but they are truly worth the title. Certain kinds of food are packed with flavours and essential nutrients that are necessary for your overall well-being. Missing out on these superfoods can leave you devoid of vital nutrients.
Here are some of the healthiest foods that you must include in your daily diet –
Berries are a great source of fibres – nutrients that keep your digestive system working properly. All kinds of berries are good for your health. Regular consumption of blueberries boosts your memory and may reduce symptoms of mental health conditions, like dementia and Alzheimer’s. Strawberries, on the other hand, come loaded with vitamin C, which contains skin rejuvenation properties.
Avocados are incredibly nutritious and contain monosaturated fatty acids, which are great for your heart health. Consumption of avocados also helps to bring down triglyceride and cholesterol levels, thus improving your blood pressure. Try incorporating this amazing fibre-rich food to your morning breakfast as a substitute for butter or mayonnaise.
Nuts and Seeds
Nuts and seeds like flaxseeds, chia seeds, walnuts and almonds are high in omega-3 fatty acids – they can help reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol by boosting HDL (good) cholesterol, and promote heart health. Recent studies have shown that eating a handful of nuts and seeds not only boost metabolism, but also curb hunger pangs, and promote weight loss. Besides, they also lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancer.
Green vegetables can do a world of good to your body. However, broccolis are particularly great for healthy, radiant skin. The vegetable is rich in Vitamin C, E and zinc, and contains a carotenoid Lutein, which prevents your skin damage and wrinkles. It contains Sulforaphane that gives a protective cover to the skin against sunrays and balances collagen levels in the skin. You can add broccoli to a bowl of salad, or have it with your main meal.
Eggs are one of the most important sources of protein and make for a healthy breakfast option. But apart from helping with the growth of muscle mass, eggs have several other health benefits. Egg yolks are rich in antioxidants that are beneficial for your eye health – it lowers the risk of vision problems like macular degeneration. Several studies indicate that choline found in eggs can help with brain development.

Yeast infections are often thought of as a women's issue, but they are also common among men and can definitely be a penis health concern. In men, this infection is commonly called thrush or candidiasis, and it can make for a very, very itchy penis. The term candidiasis comes from candida, which is the fungus that causes this yeast infection. But there are several forms of candida, and in recent years there has emerged a form called a super fungus - and not because it stands for truth, justice and the American way.
The medical name for this particular super fungus is candida auris (sometimes called c. auris). The form of candida most commonly causing an itchy penis is candida albicans, and it's a pain all by itself.
When a guy has "regular" thrush, the yeast has spread across a portion of the penis. Usually this is the glans or, if a man is intact, the foreskin, especially underneath the foreskin. A rash typically forms, which is not attractive; but the bigger problem is that thrush itches like crazy. (Sometimes the fungus can also appear in the mouth, where it is even more annoying.)
Although thrush is not considered a sexually-transmitted infection, it can be passed through sex. Often a guy will pick it up from an infected partner (or vice versa) and the two may pass it back and forth for some time. Wearing a condom can help cut down on the risk of transmission.
While a pest, regular candida can usually be treated fairly easily with oral or local antifungal medications.
But the super fungus version, candida auris, is not as easy to dismiss as regular thrush. An itchy penis is the least of a guy's concerns here - and indeed, the penis is one of the less likely sites for this super fungus to strike. Ear infections and open wounds are more common targets.
Candida auris was first noticed in 2009, and although it is still rare, it is spreading rapidly. In addition to an itch at the infected site, it is possible for the fungus to enter the bloodstream, which can cause serious and even fatal consequences; more than half of those who reach the blood poisoning phase have died.
Beyond itching, fever and chills are common. The fungus is resistant to many forms of antifungal treatment, although the earlier it is caught, the better the response. People with diabetes have an increased chance of contracting it, as do many people in hospital or nursing home settings - especially those with a central venous catheter or who have recently undergone surgery.
Most men with an itchy penis are unlikely to have contracted this super fungus; however, if they also experience fever or chills or have other unusual symptoms, they should check with a doctor to determine if there is anything they should do. Checking with a doctor for regular thrush is not a bad idea, either.
The idea of a super fungus that can turn an itchy penis into a serious condition is scary - but again, it is rare. Instead of fretting, a guy should focus more attention of his overall penis health by daily using a first rate penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) Penis skin can be strengthened by a crème that includes a powerful antioxidant like alpha lipoic acid. This can combat excess free radicals and thereby prevent oxidative damage. It also is beneficial if the crème contains vitamin B5, also called pantothenic acid, a vital nutrient that is required for cell metabolism and the maintenance of healthy tissue.

Some of the major fruits which are a rich source of Vitamin C are as follows:
1. Citrus Fruits: Citrus fruits, including limes, lemons, tangerines, oranges, grapefruits etc. are one of the most popular sources of Vitamin C in the world, and are laden with a high number of good properties.
2. Strawberries: One of the healthiest and tastiest berries, strawberries are not only rich in vitamin C, they are rich in fiber and antioxidants as well. They help in protecting the heart from excessive cholesterol and in reducing levels of oxidative stress.
3. Papayas: One of the most excellent sources of Vitamin C, papayas have been known to supply almost 100% of your daily Vitamin C needs in a single serving. Additionally, they are also a great source of Vitamin A.
4. Kiwis: Research has found that levels of Vitamin C found in kiwis are substantially higher than oranges; something which makes this New Zealand native one of the most lucrative Vitamin C options on the planet. Additionally, kiwis have also been found to improve the functioning of the respiratory tract in children as well as adults and are also rich in flavonoids and minerals like potassium.
5. Guavas: One guava contains over 250mg of Vitamin C - which is approximately twice the amount of what your body requires daily. Apart from being a storehouse of Vitamin C, it is also rich in folic acid, dietary fiber and minerals like manganese and potassium.
6. Melons: Melons such as cantaloupe not only supply a high quantity of Vitamin C, they are also rich in potassium and vitamin A. Other melons like watermelons also provide you with almost 112% of your regular Vitamin C requirements.
7. Tomatoes: Tomatoes, irrespective of whether they are bright-red or sun-dried, provide almost 170% of your daily Vitamin C requirements in only one serving.

1. Olive oil
Four decades ago, researchers from the seven countries study concluded that the monounsaturated fats in olive oil were largely responsible for the low rates of heart disease and cancer on the Greek island of Crete. Now we know that olive oil also contains polyphenols, powerful antioxidants that may help prevent age-related diseases.
In the 1970s, Soviet Georgia was rumored to have more centenarians per capita than any other country. Reports at the time claimed that the secret of their long lives was yogurt, a food ubiquitous in their diets. While the age-defying powers of yogurt never have been proven directly, yogurt is rich in calcium, which helps stave off osteoporosis and contains good bacteria that help maintain gut health and diminish the incidence of age-related intestinal illness.
Thirty years ago, researchers began to study why the native Inuits of Alaska were remarkably free of heart disease. The reason, scientists now think, is the extraordinary amount of fish they consume. Fish is an abundant source of omega-3 fats, which help prevent cholesterol buildup in arteries and protect against abnormal heart rhythms.
The Kuna people of the san blas islands, off the coast of Panama, have a rate of heart disease that is nine times less than that of mainland Panamanians. The reason? the kuna drinks plenty of a beverage made with generous proportions of cocoa, which is unusually rich in flavanols that help preserve the healthy function of blood vessels. Maintaining youthful blood vessels lowers risk of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and dementia.
Studies show that those who eat nuts gain, on average, an extra two and a half years. Nuts are rich sources of unsaturated fats, so they offer benefits similar to those associated with olive oil. Theyâre also concentrated sources of vitamins, minerals and other phytochemicals, including antioxidants.
6. Wine drinking alcohol in moderation protects against heart disease, diabetes and age-related memory loss. Any kind of alcoholic beverage seems to provide such benefits, but red wine has been the focus of much of the research. Red wine contains resveratrol, a compound that likely contributes to its benefits and, according to animal studies, may activate genes that slow cellular aging.
In a landmark study published in 1999, researchers at Tufts university's jeanMayerr human nutrition research center on aging fed rats blueberry extract for a period of time that in rat live is equivalent to 10 human years. These rats outperformed rats fed regular chow on tests of balance and coordination when they reached old age. Compounds in blueberries (and other berries) mitigate inflammation and oxidative damage, which are associated with age-related deficits in memory and motor function.
What to eat to protect your skin from sun damage and wrinkles.
As the weather warms and we all start spending more time outside, chances are you're upping your sunscreen usage. But did you know that certain foods also shield your skin from the sun and the damage it wreaks on your skin? it's true (though that doesn't give you carte blanche to ditch the sunscreen!).
Boost your defenses against skin cancer (the most common type of cancer) and help keep your skin looking younger with these 6 foods.
A cup of strawberries delivers about 150 percent of the daily recommended amount of vitamin c and eating more vitamin-c-rich foods may help to ward off wrinkles and age-related dryness suggests research.
Tomatoes get their red hue from lycopene, a carotenoid that may help to keep your skin smooth.
Tofu and other soyfoods, such as edamame and soymilk may help to preserve skin-firming collagen because it is rich in isoflavones.
Tuna and other omega-3-rich fish, such as salmon and sardines may help keep your skin looking youthful and prevent skin cancer. Epa (eicosapentaenoic acid), one of the omega-3 fats in fatty fish, has been shown to preserve collagen, a fibrous protein that keeps skin firm. And EPA in combination with the other omega-3 in fish, DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), helps to prevent skin cancer by reducing inflammatory compounds that can promote tumor growth.
Drinking a single cup of coffee daily may lower your risk of developing skin cancer.
This one may be the most surprising of all since some people say chocolate gives you acne. Turns out studies have unequivocally shown there is no connection between chocolate and skin problems, and that some types of chocolate, in fact, may even be good for your skin. Cocoa contains a type of flavonoid called epicatechin (so do tea and red wine). In a study of 24 women, published in the journal of nutrition, drinking an epicatechin-rich cocoa beverage daily for 12 weeks improved skin texture. The authors explained that epicatechin increased blood flow to the skin, boosting nutrient and oxygen supply both factors essential for keeping skin healthy. (learn more benefits of eating chocolate, plus drawbacks to being aware of, here.)
