When it comes to losing weight, everyone stresses about eating right and exercising, but there’s one thing we often forget and that is drinking right. So, drinks such as carbonated drinks and alcohol can add to your weight while others can help you get slimmer. Some of the best drinks that can help you burn calories include:

  1. Water: Water not only keeps you hydrated but can also help you lose weight. The more water you drink, the more calories you will burn. Additionally, drinking water before meals helps reduce your appetite. Drinking water through the day also reduces the urge to snack between meals and helps control your calories intake. If you want to flavour your water, don’t drink packaged juices but instead infuse your water with freshly cut fruits.
  2. Green TeaGreen tea is rich in flavonoids that increase a person’s metabolic rate and the rate of fat oxidation. There are many types of green tea available today and one of the best types of green tea is the Matcha green tea as this is the richest source of antioxidants. Do not add milk or sugar to green tea.
  3. Mint TeaTea made from fresh or dried peppermint leaves has a very low calorific value and is a great substitute for soft drinks and processed juices. This type of tea is ideal for the summer and winter months and is also rich in antioxidants. Once again, you can use honey to sweeten your tea.
  4. Black CoffeeCoffee can keep you awake but it can also help you lose weight. Coffee is rich in chlorogenic acid compounds that act as antioxidants and slow down the body’s production of glucose. Simultaneously, this lowers the production of fat cells. Black coffee can also suppress your appetite and stimulate your metabolism. Plain black coffee has negligible calories as long as there is no sugar added to it.
  5. Vegetable Juice: Vegetables are a rich source of vitamins, minerals and fiber while being low in calories and fat content. Thus, you can never have too much vegetable content in your diet. Drinking vegetable juice before meals reduce your serving size and your total calorie consumption. When juicing vegetables, using a juicer reduces the fiber content in your juice and hence, it is better to blend the raw vegetables.
  6. Grapefruit Juice: Grapefruits are low in calories and high in fiber content. It also helps manage insulin levels and energy metabolism. Like other juices, the ideal time to drink a glass o grapefruit juice is 20 minutes before meals.

Fruits - When To Consume Them?

We all believe that consuming fruit is an uncomplicated task that involves buying, cutting and eating the pieces. But in reality, to receive the benefits, you need to consume it at the right time. By consuming fruits at the right time, it can contribute to boost the detoxification process and help in weight loss and kick-start the metabolism process.

When is the best time to eat fruits?
Fruits comprise of different types of nutrients which offer protection against different types of diseases and infections, lower the chances of heart diseases and hypertension. If you eat fruits without proper knowledge of how to consume it, it can create problems rather than offer benefits. You should, therefore, try to eat fruits at the following timings.

Empty stomach in the morning.
Experts always recommend consumption of fruits on an empty stomach and in between meals. This is because digestion takes place at a fast pace during these times and the enzymes required for digestion of fruits are released easily when you are on an empty stomach. Fruits are high in simple sugars which need long hours to be completely digested by the body. Thus, if you eat fruits on an empty stomach, all the nutrients, sugar and dietary fibers are processed properly in the body. This ensures that your body gets the right quantity of nutrition from the consumption of fruits.

Before and after workout

  • Another viable time of eating fruits is before or after exercising. You are free to eat your choicest fruits right before or immediately after working out. The body would easily utilize the sugars derived from the fruits for extracting energy before a workout. It also helps in filling back the energy content of the body if you consume fruits right after workout sessions.
  • Eating fruits is a simple process which is known for offering a host of benefits. But there are also numerous myths regarding the timing of consumption of fruits which need to be debunked.
  • One such myth is that if you are suffering from high blood sugar, you should consume fruits at least one to two hours before meals. The idea behind the myth is that people with diabetes have digestive issues and eating the fruits separately can improve digestion to some degree. But there is no supportive evidence for the statement.

So, it is advised to eat the fruit as a snack together with protein-packed meals which can aid in digestion. This is also beneficial as smaller amounts of sugar gets absorbed at a time which leads to the meagre amount of rising in blood sugar levels.

The normal level of vitamin b12 in your bloodstream is generally between 190 and 950 picograms per millilitre (pg/ml). And you need not worry. You seem to have anxiety issues and need to relax the mind by meditation and yoga.

Hello, thanks for the query. Usually maximum recommended dose of metformin per day is 2500 mg. Most often 2000 mg is given in most patients. Thanks.

For pimples clean the face properly with acnelac soap and for medicine, we can't write like this as per order. But don't scratch it to prevent scar. Use good antidandruff shampoo if you have it. Do thyroid tests to know the cause.

Acne Scars - Know The Dermatological Ways Of Treating Them!

Acne scars are caused when a pimple or cyst is popped and broken leaving a layer of damaged skin behind. These scars are caused by the excess oil, dead skin, and bacteria blocking the skin pores causing it to swell.

Acne scars can be categorized into three types:

  1. Ice Pick scars which are small but have deep pits.
  2. Boxcar scars have sharp edges, these can be shallow or deep
  3. Rolling scar have a wavy look as they are wide and shallow. This type of scarring is usually caused by damage to the skin.

Causes of acne scars:

Acne and acne scars can be caused due to the following reasons:

  1. Hormonal imbalance during or after the onset of puberty
  2. Medicines that contains lithium, androgen or corticosteroids
  3. Oil and greasy food items and those rich in carbohydrates can trigger acne. In some cases, dairy products can worsen the condition.

Simple tips to prevent scarring:

Some acne scars fade with time. In the early stages, the scars might look pink as blood vessels in the damaged area of the skin provide it with nourishment. With time the collagen in the skin would fill the injured or damaged portion of the skin. In some cases, it might take up to a year for scars to fade.

  1. Don’t pick or squeeze pimples or acne as they can get inflamed. This inflammation can cause the bacteria to go further into the skin which would result in deeper scars.
  2. Use mild cosmetic products as some products can increase the risk of acne and scarring. Non-toxic, paraben-free products free from synthetic dyes and colours should be used sparingly.
  3. Getting enough sleep is important and necessary for the body to produce collagen which is a protein necessary for skin elasticity. Sleep also helps the body and skin to repair itself.

Treatment of acne scars:

In extreme cases, you might need proper treatment at a hospital. Most of these treatments can be performed as an outpatient procedure. Some of them are:

  1. Skin resurfacing: where the damaged skin is removed to help new skin to grow. The damaged skin can be removed by the use of a laserdermabrasionor a chemical peel.
  2. Laser Treatment: Lasers such as fractional CO2, MNRF, etc can help.
  3. FillersIn this procedure, the doctor would inject a filler such as a collagen or fat into the damaged area. This helps the skin to become smooth.
  4. Rolling: Rolling also known as needling, is a procedure where tiny needles are rolled over the skin to stimulate it to grow
  5. SurgeryIn a few very extreme cases the scars would need to be cut away and the area repaired with the use of skin grafts obtained from another part of the body.

Any scars and especially acne scars can be unsightly. A skin doctor or dermatologist would help you choose the right treatment plan depending on the type of damage done to the skin.
