In pt of pcod there is increased insulin resistance ,metformin being a insulin sensitizer drug decreases the insulin resistance, it also helps in reducing wt and in ovulation. Total dose is 1500 mg taken in 2 or 3 divided doses.
Lifestyle changes for wt reduction should also be adopted.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Tab Gluconorm SR 500 is containing only Metformin, where as The other tablet has Glimepiride 1 mg plus metformin. So the action can be much stronger. That may lead to lower glucose levels. Plus changing medicine with doctor's advise, is not good. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query.
Blood glucose level 270 mg (fasting or after food is not mentioned), is high. It means that present treatment is not really helping in controlling the glucose level properly. He does need some additional drugs. Plus there needs to be a close given to diet and extent of exercise being done daily. Thanks.

The delayed version releases the drug more slowly and this usually eliminates the gastrointestinal problems.

Ir is immediate release and sr is sustained release formulations. Both work well but usually sr formulations have lesser gastrointestinal side effects.

Hello, thanks for the query.
Both the products are same. The er refers to extended release, which means the drug is released slowly over 12 hours in the gut. That helps maintain a longer therapeutic level. It is beneficial more so if a person has any side effects like gastrointestinal disturbances if plain metformin is taken. Both are fine. Thanks.

It comes in 500 mg and 1000 mg can be taken after food because of its adverse effect to cause gastritis.
