All treatments for hairfall or baldness are temporary as it is caused by hormones and hormones can never be removed from body. But regular use of these medications can defeinitely arrest hairfall and imrpove hairgrowth. Minoxidil may sometimes increase if you already have dandruff. Finasteride has some side effects and not regularly given to all.

F stands for finasteride which blocks conversion of testosterone hormone to dihydrotestestorone (dht) which helps in growth of prostrate
psa is a market for prostrate cancer
when finasteride or dutasteride are used they decrease psa level spuriously and masks the ongoing prostate cancer so before using finast one has to check a baseline psa.
