I am sorry to say NO. Depression is a mental disease. If your daughter is taking medicines for 18 months, she is ought to feel better. Now you may talk to your psychiatrist to slowly taper that medicine over a period of another 18 months. If symptoms relapse, the medicine should not be stopped. Work with your psychiatrist. Psychotherapy methods will teach your daughter to manage her depression. You may post a private question to me with every detail and I shall provide all the required steps to ...more

Dear Lybrate user,
generally one month period is enough to get the desired results, but in some cases it may take a longer time. It depends on many factors like the severity of the illness, age of the patient etc. Better complete the 2-month course as prescribed by your doctor, and then if there is no improvement you can ask the doctor for other medicines.

Hi, first of all I would suggest you that for medication part you should talk to your treating doctor so that he can make changes in doses or medicines. Secondly I would highly suggest you to go for cbt and erp therapies with a good psychotherapist. Cognitive behaviour therapy works wonders in case of anxiety and exposure response prevention therapy works very effectively in ocd.
