Beta blockers are used quite often to control hypertension and related cardiac problems in patients with diabetes also. They are fairly safe. Some times hypoglycemic episodes may not be easily recognised. Thanks.

It should have been replaced by other medicine preferably from ssri group which are more safe in long term and don't carry risk of dependence. You should try non pharmacological methods- yoga, pranayam, meditation and psychological therapies like cbt, along with medications and then reduce the medicines as per your doctor's advice.
