This medicine (proton pump inhibitor (ppi).) will not cure problem. It only works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach. The day you do not take medicine normal acid production will be there n you will have symptoms.

sometimes pantoprazole works well (in some people) and sometimes the other in different people. So, you should see in each case (case by case decision). But the question is about side effects or safety profile. In esomeprazole, many people experiences hiatal hernia, stomach pain, burning and in case of panto, many people have dizziness, burning, weight loss.
