I have been suffering from generalized anxiety disorder from the age of 14 since 2002. My father suffered a heart attack and was admitted to icu. I was in a movie theatre watching a movie and was brought to hospital to see him. That incident triggered my anxiety disorder. The burning sensation / butterflies in the stomach will not go away. That makes my mood worse and impair cognitive functions. Studies and exams became nightmare for me due to this problem. I was treated by a clinical psychologist initially. He trained me progressive muscle relaxation and guided imagery. I did that with some success but my problem worsened and another clinical psychologist trained me deep relaxation with jpmr and diaphragmatic breathing. But my problem never went away and I continued with my studies somehow. Completed 12th and joined b.tech. But I could not pass b.tech papers. The doctor I was seeing was against psychiatric medications and my parents were also not interested in that. In 2011 due to some personal issues my problem worsened and I decided to see a psychiatrist. He prescribed me escitalopram and when it started working I saw a huge improvement. I cleared all my back papers. Then I joined a job and I did pg in mechanical engineering. When I tried to stop medication, the problems came back with a vengeance also the same medicine will not work. Doctors tried different medicines to find the one that works. Also psychiatrists did not advise any psychological therapy. escitalopram worked again and I felt better again. I got married and was leading a good family life. But the medicine stops working sometimes and I am helpless when they do and the symptoms return. Psychiatrists have tried ssri like escitalopram, sertraline, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, snris like venlafaxine, desvenlafaxine, duloxetine, then other meds like benzodiazepines, buspirone, propranolol, quetiapine, amisurplide etc. I tried even ketamine infusion and that made me feel worse. The only medicines that worked for me are escitalopram and duloxetine. But in those duloxetine stops working very soon and escitalopram stops working in 2-3 years. Now I am in a situation where escitalopram has stopped working. Is there any way to make it work again or any better medicines out there? I have heard stories of people who are on antidepressants on for a very long time. But I am not able to go past 3 year with relapse. I need serious help to live without this problem affecting my life. What should I do to go on antidepressants for a long time with out relapse? I have not tried therapies like cbt, mindfulness, act etc will I be able to manage my problem with psychological interventions like those? All my bad feelings come from my gut area. Is there any underlying biological reason for my disorder? I am willing to spend all my money to recover from this problem. I am inviting suggestions from all the experts in Lybrate who could help me recover from this debilitating problem.

As per your scan, there is wear and tear of your spine. There is no nerve compression seen. This is most likely to cause you a lot of backpain, which is what you are having. You will need to have this treated with regular painkillers. Unfortunately, you will need to continue painkillers for a long time. You will also need to have proper physiotherapy for strengthening you back along with the painkillers.

Hi, my complaints appeared 2 years ago as giddiness in my head. After a while, my complaints such as a swaying sensation in my head, imbalance, headache and neck pain, the need to hold my neck upright, started to become regular every day. First, I went to the emergency room, a brain tomography was taken, it was clean, I was told that it might be stress because it was my exam period, and betaserc was given. Then I went to neurology, brain mri was done and it came out clean. Afterwards, I was examined in the physical therapy department, neck mri and x-ray were taken, it was found that the neck was flattened, and exercise and muscle relaxant cream was given. My complaints continued for several more months. When I went to neurology again, mri was done again, it was clean, essential tremor was suspected. Since I also have dizziness and imbalance, neck doppler was taken and it came out clean. Blood tests and thyroid tests were also clean. Then I went to a pain specialist, there was a nerve block in my neck, but my problems continued. Later that pain specialist referred me to psychiatry, saying that the problem was the excessive tension of my neck muscles and psychological. I used antidepressants for 6-7 months. While I was using duxet, my complaints were almost gone, but later, when I was allergic to the drug, I switched to another drug and my complaints came back with other drugs. In this process, excessive jaw pain was added to my complaints. My complaints did not go away with psychotherapy and psychiatry. I started ozone therapy, neural therapy and acupuncture treatment at the complementary medicine center. Even though there are 4 sessions now, my pain still continues in the same way. My current complaints are headache, jaw pain, drowsiness and feeling of being in a dream, fainting when standing still but not fainting, imbalance, facial pain, inability to sit upright at the table, increased pain when sitting, floating objects in the eyes, tension as if my neck is being pulled down, floating in my eyes objects. My complaints start 1 hour after waking up every day and continue with varying intensities until I go to bed. I do not see any benefit from painkillers or muscle relaxants, only when I drink alcohol my complaints go away. What would you recommend me to do? Thanks in advance.

Hi, my wife is 47 years. She is having history of migraine for the last 20 years. It turned into depression. She took medicine duzela-40 for 8-9 months in 2011. After she recovered and stopped taking this medicine. Subsequently she was dignosed thiroyd. She is prescribed thyrox-25 and is taking this medicine since last 2012. Now in the month of feb 2015 she got stroke i. E. Vometing & giddiness and became semicountious. We called the doctor found that she was having high blood pressure at 154/100 at that moment. Doctor gave medicine and bp came down to normal within 4 hours. After that she started feeling problem in hearing from left ear and subsequently started problem in speaking. We consulted neurologyst who suggested mri of brain. The report says" grossly normal examination with incidental finding of small arachnoid cyst in the left sylvian region. The neurologyst started stalopapam-5, rejunex cd3 & ecosprin. She took the medicine since last 20 days her other problems subsided, however, the problem of speaking aggravated. We consulted neurosurgen also who said that the mri is normal and no need of surgery. The neurologyst again examined and immediately stopped stalopam-5, instead, suggested benadryl syrup and continued the other medicines. My wife is not able to speak properly. please suggest whether we are on right way .Thanks and regards.
