If the pain is severe enough then I would suggest you take good amount of rest. Avoid exertion including heavy exercises, stairs, cross legged sitting. Your pain should reduce with time and good physiotherapy and will not become rheumatoid arthritis which is a completely different type of arthritis.

You should take Medical Nutrition Therapy course for three months to make your joints and cartilage stronger. Taking random supplements like Glucosamine and Calcium can be harmful and useless at times.
Moreover, as per recent research, Glucosamine is not better than Placebo.
Rather I would suggest you take Bone Broth daily which can be cooked at home.

First thing with my limited experience would suggest to stop the walking with the limb for such long in specific condition unless your vet suggested the same for any medical ailments. You may would like to administer a higher level vitamin d3 injection with supportive binding minerals/elements to avoid further degradation and help to recover accordingly with currently prescribed or a considerably better joint support formula. Regards Lybrate user. Pain in knee sometimes may not have to be from the knee as such. There are structures in hip or low back that may cause one to feel pain in the knee (without actually having pain in the knee). This may be ascertained by a thorough examination and evaluation. Ice therapy would definitely help to reduce the inflammation. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. Stiffness have developed due to weakness of the ligaments & inflamed cartilage. Specific knee exercises will also help ie. Keeping ball underneath the knee and keep pressing it.
